This could be BAD for the Panthers…

The Florida Panthers knocked out the Carolina Hurricanes in 4 games in round 3 of the NHL playoffs. Is this extended period of rest a good thing or will it end up being something that will be bad for the Panthers as they could lose their momentum going into the finals as opposed to the Stars and Golden knights who will have played a lot more recently.

  1. People think about this to much.. rest is good. The idea they would lose chemistry or whatever is nonsense.. more rest the better

  2. This isn’t baseball where routine and hot streaks are most important. Rest and recovery can only be good for this Panther team. IF there is any rust, which there most likely will be its just natural, it will be knocked off after the 1st period of the 1st game. They’re not gonna be rusty for the entire series because they got a week and a half rest. They’re professional athletes.

  3. I think early rounds are a different beast entirely than the final. I think the rest will be good for them, there were alot of guys kinda banged up, remember barkov basically had to sit out almost all of game 3. I think their hunger will trump any rust considering they are this close to history.

  4. this is always going to be talked about, but often forgotten once it's all said and done. We won't remember 3 years down the road.

  5. It depends on how you view Florida's success. If you think it's merely momentum and the rush that got their wins, then you probably think rest is bad. On the other hand, if you think the players buying into the systems of the coach is ultimately what caused their success, then rest is in fact good.

  6. i think this ultimately helped them. the break allowed one of their injured to recoup and hell be ready now for game 1.

  7. Maybe the 1st game they might be a lil off but they know it's been 27 yrs since they been to the show so they will capitalize as needed! In 96 they got swept they definitely don't want to repeat that! Go Cats get dat azz 😎

  8. The extra days give time for Luostarinen, Cousins, and Barkov to all get 100%

  9. This is a valid concern. I can't think of examples but I know in the past I've seen cases where the rested team played poorly when they came back.

  10. I don't think it will make a difference.

they had a hell of a time just getting in to the playoffs and w.e Keith Tkachuk said to his son obviously lite a fire under their asses because they've been on fire ever since he called them out.

  11. Teams coming off of a game 7 win the next round 90% of the time when they are facing a team coming off of a sweep.

  12. It's all on Bobrovsky, if he can keep up his play, i think Florida will win, doesn't matter who they face.

  13. Don't even try to compare Toronto to Florida. One team has heart backbone the other team are just primadonnas

  14. Time off varies from team to team. Colorado had a significantly longer break than Tampa last year, but still won. The 2012 kings had long breaks between series and were fine as well. The rangers last year significantly less time off between series vs tampa last year helped them in game 1-2, but then tampa got the rust off, & went on with 4 straight wins. True the opposite can be a said the other way, but here, we’ll wait & see.

  15. They had a break after the laff series too… then they sweapt the canes. Im confident they'll come out flying

  16. Easy example… just last year. TB grinded and fought their way to the SCF only to run into a hungry rested Avs team… an Avs team that certainly benefited from the break they had. Whichever way you put it… the team that faces Florida is the one that is in trouble.

  17. Nope. Vegas is going to back into the finals after coming out big against Dallas. Both teams will have had plenty of rest, but only one team will have had adequate time to prep for their opponent.

  18. '93 Canadiens had an 8 day rest. Lost the first and won 4 in a row for the cup. More rest is always better.

  19. I'm still seeing lots of takes where the Panthers are considered the underdog going into this next round, despite knocking off the three best teams they possibly could have faced. I think the next series will depend a little on how they match up.

We just saw what they did to Carolina, with a heavy systems defense oriented around a 1-2-2 neutral zone trap and an aggressive 2-1-2 dump on the forecheck. Vegas is basically the exact same team, with slightly less talent.

The only way I see this being a series is if Dallas ends up taking the reverse sweep, or if it's like this video suggests and they just go super cold off the break.

  20. Florida is 4 – 0 this year when they have 5 days or more off before a game. Just an fyi

  21. Panthers are playing like they have nothing to lose and have been playing that way since they barely eked into the playoffs. The time off is a non- factor.

  22. It doesn't matter who wins the next series. Toronto maple leafs already won the cup after beating Tampa bay

  23. Bobrovsky needed the rest as a goalie facing that much action and having no recovery time higher risk for injury this is the best case for him
