Mitch Marner can make any forward on his line good, can Auston do that? Not in the Playoffs where it really counts.
Mathews isn’t a playoff player, he needs regular season space on the ice to be dominant, space you need to battle hard for in the playoffs which he isn’t capable of.
Auston wanting to stay in Toronto has to be repeated the same amount of times mcdavid wants to stay in Edmonton
if ur the leafs you have to trade or sign matthews before july 1st. highly unlikely he re signs (Especially with dubas gone) and he has a nmc that kicks in very soon.

Matthews body language says differently, other than personal accolades, says one thing snd performs another
Canes are playoff busts. Oppenets matter, and each time the Leafs lost in the playoffs, they lost to the eventual cup finalist. Being swept in the conference finals by Boston and now Florida is not a sucessful playoff team. I will believe the Canes are a better playoff team than the Leafs when the beat the Leafs, or the team that eliminates the Leafs. Beating the Islanders does not count.
For the Portzline 3rd overall pick stuff I guarantee that’s just Porty being an idiot per usual, he likes to make stuff up and report it like it’s an actual thing. Basically the entire Jackets fanbase takes everything he says with a massive grain of salt. Frankly if the jackets trade the 3rd overall pick for Elias Lindholm Jarmo should immediately be fired. You don’t trade 15 years of a future 1C for a 30 year old fringe 1C who averages 56 points a season and has 1 year left on his deal. The only trade the Jackets would do for him is something involving the 22nd overall pick and a few other assets.
Dubas to ottawa seems far more sensible. not changing countries, young and extremely valuable roster, immediate playoff contention, and who knows, snoop dogg may even see the guru in dubas and give him full control

It would be cool to get the Robertson brothers on the same team. Trade Nylander and a 2nd for Jake Robertson
How about this as a reason for the Leaf's to trade Auston Matthews: 1) it's a business, not a popularity contest 2) it's not about getting full value in return for Auston, it's a matter of making the team better. 3) Auston would be stupid to sign anything longer than a five year contract extension (total of 6 years, because he would want to sign one last contract after that to finish his career, he will be more marketable as a 31 year old than a 33 year old 4) the Leaf's cannot build a team that is improved if Matthews is getting $14 million plus. 5) Matthews is a wuss, not a power forward
I see a flames subreddit ask if Marner + a 1st would be enough for Lindholm, and the guy said they would need at least another second from Toronto to think about it. So Marner, a 1 and a 2 for a 30+ year old with one season left would be a maybe
