On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins as we look at the Florida Panthers’ run to the Stanley Cup Final and what the Wild can learn from it. We start by looking at the run Sergei Bobrovsky has gone on to help the Panthers beat Boston, Toronto and Carolina in succession. But the Panthers wouldn’t have even made the postseason without the play of Alex Lyon down the stretch when Bobrovsky was struggling. We take a look at the torrid postseason for Matthew Tkachuk. We also look at the help he has received from his teammates further highlighting the importance of someone taking the lead while complimentary players also hold up their end of the bargain. We finish by discussing the coaching of Paul Maurice, who has seemed to press every button correctly during this stretch of postseason success.

what should they learn? you cant throw out 14 million in cap space, then blame the cap space for not having a bench that cant play at nhl level, yet. guerin' inherited those contracts, took the job anyway and then royally scewed up by finding out he couldnt renegotiate those contracts lower! and first round draft choices dont grow on trees or do 20 goal scorers who punch above thier weight in the playoffs. look at florida – everyone gets points. look at the wild. hardly no one. a nobody coach cuz no one else would take this roster……gonna be a small miracle if we make the playoffs and wont get out of the first round next year,
Improbable run! Florida had a down year this year but they were the best team in the league last year and in 2020 they were only 3 points from the best. You all act like they came out of no where and its some kind of a miracle that there as good as they are. Theyve been a good team for a few years now. Its no surprise.
Florida was a lone break in G5 against Boston from elimination. With all the teams being so even, 7 out of 8 in the western conference playoff teams had over 100 points per team the TNT broadcast tonight, it really comes down to puck luck, being as healthy as possible, 4 lines, and most importantly, a HOT goalie. Watching Vegas rotate 4 healthy lines tonight against Dallas shows how important depth is. I still hate the fact they are playing 9 million over the salary cap with Stone is utter bullshit. This loophole needs to be removed – period as he shows up G1 in the playoffs. I actually thought this Wild team was built for the playoffs until 97 and then 14 were both injured in March. Agree with Alex, we need a C1, and this has been a theme for years, preferably a physical presence with some nastiness and a face off specialist, 55% or so. I also agree we need to get larger on the backend, making it difficult for opposing forwards to get to the spots etc. Not sure with the cap issues what the answers are, just need some tweaks and hope for some mojo as the roster has solid talent and goaltending.
Snipers and playmakers win regular seasons. Two way forwards and powerforwards win playoffs.
Also, lyon was playing not because bob sucked. Bob was actually injured. Not sure why people saying bob lost his job when he was injured. Granted lyon did play part of boston series despite bob being back, but it was for like 3 games.
