[Alex Daugherty] Andrew Brunette’s coaching resume is short, but quite impressive. After taking over for Joel Quenneville in Florida, he coached the Panthers to a 51-18-6 record and the Presidents’ Trophy. They lost in the 2nd round to Tampa and the Panthers hired Paul Maurice in the offseason.

Don’t want to overreact or anything, but we are definitely winning the Cup next season 😮‍💨

One of the better options out there. Kinda did hynes dirty by stringing him along for the last 6 weeks, but definitely a massive improvement.

Got the new GM I wanted, got rid of Hynes and hired a coach with a decent resume. I’m liking how this off-season has been going.

I’m more convinced than ever that the Preds are going to keep tearing it down and go on a rebuild. Beyond his coaching CV, Brunette also flirted with being a GM while he was starting out in Minny. He ultimately spent three years as an Assistant GM under Chuck Fletcher while there. To me that means he’s got a good eye for player scouting and developing, potentially covering a blind spot in Trotz’ lack of GM experience.

Brunette is a billed as a great coach but still hasn’t had an opportunity to build a team in his vision. He spent 1 season as an interim coach at Florida and did well with them but he still has a couple of question marks around his ability.

It’s definitely not a huge “win now” coaching change, in my opinion.

Happy to not be dipping into the old retreads for sure!

So do we have a chance for the cup?

Liking this signing, Brunette brings some experience, he doesn’t change up the lines too much to fuck the chemistry and I believe he was good in getting the younger guys to take that next step but don’t quote me. Either way this is a MASSIVE upgrade from Hynes, then again, a cymbal crashing monkey would’ve been an improvement

Key thing here is that Brunette has a solid track record at coaching young, offensivley minded forwards. Guess what the Predators have a lot of.
