Canucks TRADE: Canucks acquire Nate Schmidt from the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2022 3rd rounder

The Canucks have acquired Nate Schmidt from the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2022 3rd rounder.

I love the fact that the Canucks didn’t give up any prospects in this deal, and this move solidifies our right side for a few years.

  1. Past couple of days it was hard to see Marky, Tanev, Stetcher and Toffoli go, but getting Schmidt helps ease the pain 🙂

  2. Don’t like the signing. VERY disappointed. Was holding out hope but now…. Schmidt does NOT have the experience and talent to teach the Canucks younger defence men. WAYYYY too much money for not such a talented player. Very disappointed ☹️

  3. This is a trade you make every day of the week. Good young defenseman, under a decent contract, addresses an area of need, fits in with the core, and cost a 2022 3rd. Rafferty, Juolevi, and Rathbone are in the wings, and we still have Benn. Have to have open space, but also need good talent, so…I think our back end is fine. Goaltending is fine. Forward group has Hoglander and Podkholzin coming in next season at differing times. We're fine. Let's move forward and see what we have.

  4. U guys were crying when Benning let tanev and stecher go, well guess what, this guy is a HUGE UPGRADE!!! He replaces tanev and juollevi or raffferty are way better than stecher, what a move and for only a 2022 3rd round pick holy moly!!!! Benning fleeced vgs

  5. It's better than getting oel who would have bumped Hughes down or been a 2nd pair guy himself and it's 2.3 mill cheaper

  6. Two good moves by the Canucks. We have been burned too many times by free agency. Schmidt and Holtby are solid moves.

  7. In Vegas he was 3rd pairing? Nate Schmit fits more on a fast team and is on the PP in Vegas when we played them

  8. This is what the Canucks needed. I love this trade and it makes what they gave up to get Toffoli much easier to bear. Schmidt is also bringing in a ton of playoffs experience with him.

  9. he was #1 right side d man in Vegas  until last year when Theodore took his spot but he was still their 2nd best defender but dropped to the 2nd pair, better than tanev

  10. When you look at defence available this year, he’s gotta be top 3 right after Petro, Krug and just above Tanev, Barrie, Brodie. The cap hit/term fits in right where it should be

  11. Finally adding to the roster! I’d rather have Schmidt instead of Tanev and Stecher any day. Now we just need a winger for Bo

  12. Schmidt is an upgrade to stecher for sure. Plus! He comes from a far tougher culture. Hope some rub off

  13. TJ Brodie: Signed until he's 34 at 5 million per.
Chris Tanev: Signed until he's 35 at 4.5 million per.
Nate Schmidt: Signed until he's 34 at 5.85 million per.

I promise you 31 of 31 NHL GMs would take Nate Schmidt out of that group. Thank god we didn't unload more picks and prospects in the OEL folly. This is a great day folks! Schmidt has been on the Vegas top pairing much of the past 3 years!

  14. Actually, the present Canuck top four defencemen look pretty damm good. Then, let two spots on the third pairing for the young guys in our Canuck system play as these guys should be ready for playing in the NHL.

  15. Tanev and Stetcher are nowhere NEAR the all-around player that Schmidt is. Plus you can expose a guy like Myers in the expansion draft and hope he gets picked up and Edler comes off the books next offseason, too. No, Schmidt is an EXCELLENT pick up and Benning absolutely fleeced Vegas here.
