  1. Yeah you made the WCF, but so what? Does any kid dream of that?

Benn made a team sabotaging gesture with that penalty. It was a very interesting piece of body language and one that a captain cannot do. He then made the dumbest statement about it possible, which cemented his lack of leadership. Lots of players can score 100 points, but leadership finds ways to win when it counts or at least loses while still playing the game properly. The Stars lost some dignity with that play.

It’s a team sport and a captain sacrifices for the team. It’s better to score fifty less points if your team scores seventy-five more -or just one more in the game where you need just one to win.

Nobody cares about regular season or almost won. It’s sports. The glory goes to the champions and the respect goes to those who play the game well regardless of outcome.

  2. I don't see how Benn adds any value to the team at his current role and production output. Any great team making a run will get help from 4th line and rookies. So the numbers a few of the other guys were putting up wasn't super uncommon. Benn and Segs still need to be 1/2 in points and ice time. They should be using experience to make plays and decisions. Neither of them do that right now. They played a lot of games on cruise control. Let the other guys chip in and it clearly showed when going up against Vegas.

They pay 20m for just Benn and Seg, which is a lot of money. I'd rather see Seg go as you could gain more from that, Pavs as well if he wants to keep playing. Benn doesnt have as much value as he plays a heavy game and lacks leadership. Getting a return on him will most likely cost Dallas. The team is good but not great and that's okay. If they want a cup win they don't get it with Otter and Benn/Seg. To much risk at the positions. However, they can slump it in the 1/2nd rounds every year and still do well. They are close but they need real leadership, the bench and front office need to step up and make changes that make sense.

  3. They wont move benn not till his c is ripped off. Seguin likes being on the team with him and everyone loves their captain. Itd destroy your locker room. End of consideration.

  4. Benn and Seguin have one more year each on their deals… they’ll be here through til the end of them. That’s their prerogative for being such tenured vets. It’s called respect and class. They get to finish with class. They deserve that. Suter….. not so much. Like thanks but, see ya later type deal there.

  5. Pavelski has been the true leader of that team since he arrived. Hard to put the C on a guy when he may only have 1 more year to play (call it 2 since he's Joe Pavelski). Might be worth it though, if this is their window.

  6. Let the boys take a vacation and come back to planet earth. Everything is raw right now and will take some time to get over this loss. Jamie Benn is still a very solid player and captain of the Dallas Stars!

  7. Honestly, I didn't even realize that Benn had a 78 point season this year. He had one of the best seasons of his career and really bounced back after a few real mediocre years. The team reeks of "good" but not good enough to truly get over the hump and it's not going to get easier with Benn and Seguin getting older and Robertson needing an extension soon.

There's a good chance the West improves next year and Dallas is not likely to – so it's tough to see their future of winning a cup without making some changes.

  8. Personally, I can't stand dirty players like Benn who risk extremely serious injury to other players intentionally. Tough hits are one thing, trying to break a second player's neck really ought to get you a season off to deal with your anger problems. Brad Marchand has proven that dirty players can change, though. So I hope Dallas does whatever they need to do to force Benn to change before he literally paralyzes somebody on the ice (since we know DOPS won't).

  9. I think there is way to many scumbag fans. Jamie benn has been an incredible player for the stars for what 10+ years. He will undoubtedly be scape goated. The hit on stone was ugly but its playoff hockey. Show some respect to someone who gave so much to the Dallas franchise.
    GoKnightsGo!

  10. Yeah he took that dumb penalty… but it's still sad seeing a Power forward running out of juice! Benn tried last night… but dialed in Vegas made him look like he no longer belongs in the NHL!

  11. 33 goals in the regular season, I've never seen his teammates criticize his captain abilities. He doesn't deserve the blame for everyone looking like hot garbage last night.

  12. Turf/trade him. He was a selfish player with his near decapitation of Stone and they could’ve been blown away four straight. This is not his first offence either don’t forget. they went 2-0 in a row without him in the lineup. He comes back, contributes nothing, and they get blown out of the water. Never mind the big salary he gets.

  13. Seeing Seguin play was the weirdest thing I've seen in a while! His skating passes the eye test… so he kinda looks fast… for about half a second though… then it's as if he's skating against the wind… with the wind winning the battle! I'm hoping he finds a way to pull a Karlsson & somehow skate like before his injuries!

  14. I don't know if I've ever seen a more dramatic and convincing demonstration that a team is better off without a particular player.

Benn played a crucial role in losing game 3. What a personal melt down. He took a 5 minute penalty during which Vegas scored, and got himself thrown out of the next two games. That's not leadership.

    Then the team–without him–won games 4 and 5.

Then he returns and they lose game 6 even worse than they lost game 3. Also, even though he didn't play much in game 6, he made at least one turnover that resulted in a penalty that resulted in a Vegas goal. He played 12:36 in game 6 and was -2.

All games Benn played against Vegas, the Stars lost. All games he didn't play against Vegas, the Stars won.

  15. His contract is buyout proof and nobody is taking on that deal unless DAL is willing to pay them to. He also has a full NMC. This contract is iron clad. He stays, easily.

  16. They cant trade him. Nobody is taking on that $9.5M cap hit and it doesn't make sense for the Stars to retain any salary or buy him out. He made a bad play and showed a lack of leadership but there's no feasible way for the Stars to get rid of him even if they wanted to.

  17. He seems clown enough to be butt hurt enough to leave if they strip him off the C, instead of owning. and not half assed owning up like that post game crap.

  18. Benn is a solid player but he lacks that dogg mentality captains of Stanley cup winners often have. Look at guys like McKinnon, Stamkos, Toews, Crosby

  19. Last two rounds had so few penalties…teams have to score 5v5 to win….Oilers and Dallas relied on powerplays that is why they lost.

  20. Dallas needs to rebuild its lineups to go deeper into games or figure out better ways to win in regulation They were a 60 min team and that was it. They had 18 OTL in the Reg season/playoffs. When it comes down to it, they couldn’t finish out games and series when they needed to. It was pretty evident early on they weren’t going to win the cup with the style of play of not finishing games. I say also a lot of credit go to Seattle for beating down Dallas and forcing them to expend every last ounce of energy they had to beat them. That was evident in game 1 of the WCF. I don’t expect much to change for Dallas and will continue to break the fan base’s heart for years to come.

  21. I like Benn. But, it felt like his heart wasn’t in it. And his comments about the cross check were cringe worthy. Dallas needs a new leader

  22. Yeah, this conversation is stupid. Unless the players and the team are lying, Jamie Benn is beloved in the locker room and he isn't going anywhere until that contract ends. You just got his best season in 5 years, and he is playing at a high level. Same with Suter. He is not the liability that every one is complaining he is. These two guys had one big mistake each in the playoffs, now everybody wants them gone. Typical Texas sports fans (eye roll). People like to think they know so much about the team, but you gotta pay close attention to the details to know anything at all. I have found that out myself over the years. Suter and Benn are valuable to the team in ways that many fans cannot even see, much less appreciate. And hey, i was among those calling for Benn to be traded after last season. But it's just not gonna happen. I could totally see them identifying the next captain and have that player mentored by Benn, but i honestly think that process is already happening. Could be Wyatt, could be Roope, could be Robo. Not sure who. But it could be happening already.

  23. As a Stars fan since 93, what hump has Benn got us over, ever? Hes been high priced, while producing very little during his career as a "superstar". Hes not a superstar, he had one good season while everyone else didnt. It might be harsh, but its the truth. Its time to move on, but his $9.5 million for two years with full NMC will make that incredibly tough.

  24. Kadri on the lafs, did fine for 2 years but got suspended in back to back playoff years, lafs shipped him (sure he had cracked stats on the Avs after but the Avs core carried him to those numbers), time to fire Benn into the moon before he costs them a playoff series next year too.

  25. Send him to Chicago. I personally love his style of play. Plenty of skill and grit. What’s also pretty impressive, imo, is the composition of the Dallas Stars team, the overwhelming majority are guys that have been drafted- not traded for. I thought the stars would’ve won the series and it would’ve been a gulf coast finals, but Vegas is deep to their credit. With the super deep upcoming draft, they should be able to work some magic. But to call Benn dirty, as another commenter said, he is not Marchand. He is class, the hawks have some money to spend for a change and he would be a great interim captain. You wanna take Seth Jones? Lol

  26. 😂 such a causal take. To blame it all on him in a game where no one on the team showed up and he only played 12 minutes is silly. Benn was 5th in scoring in these playoffs and 2nd in scoring in the regular season.
