Any chance the Devils trade for Hellebuyck this offseason?

I know next to nothing about how trades work, but I know that I’d love to see this happen. His contract is up in 2024. The Devils need reliable playoff goaltending, and I’d assume Helleybuck wants to be on a winning team. Any chance this happens?

It’s a bad idea bc it cost us so much in regards to disassembling our team than just keeping Schmid and Vanacek. Does Vanacek become an overpaid backup or do you ship him out?

Ill take the extra cap for our players and depth over the goalie.

Most expensive goalies are not worth it. Fitz isn’t the type to be bringing in ufa’s especially if we can’t keep him. He’s not a big rental guy. Most likely you’re signing a bad deal if he does want to resign too.

He’s in his ufa year so it’s more pragmatic to target a guy like him when he hits free agency.

The reason that makes more sense than trading is that when teams hold a valuable ufa player , they pull the trigger at trade deadline.

If they’re in the playoff hunt, they keep him as their own rental. Or trade him when his value is highest.

For NJ, there’s a market of goalies every year. No need to waste assets.

Like my guy is Vejmelka on Arizona. With his cheap cap hit we can keep all 3 of Schmid, Vanecek and Vej.

We actually COULD trade Daws since we’d be all stocked up. Either to Arizona or just separately.

No rather not, older and wants a ton as a ufa next year, our window for the cup is a like the next 10 years not now

You can win in the league without elite goalies, save Vasilevskiy, post 2004-2005 lockout, that started with Cam Ward, Niemi, Crawford, Holtby, Binnington, Murray etc or above average/peaking at right time like Quick, Fleury & Thomas

Hellebuyck is one of the best goaltenders in the league.

They should definitely go for it

Would love it. Windows open, and a vezina caliber goaltender makes the chances that much better.

There’s one consistent theme in Fitzgeralds term in that everything works within their long term time frame with the cap space. They very clearly try to maximize that asset, it’s all a matter of if the space is there. Lots of deals in the air right now contractually, is there a shuffle that makes Hellebuyck doable? I would hope so, but glad I don’t make the decisions to try for it. Schmid taking another step is nothing to scoff at
