Remember watching this game with all of my high school friends. It was such a nice late spring Michigan day. We all went down to the basement to watch and the floodgates just opened. Seemed like every shot was going in and Roy was seeing ghosts. Game was over after the first period, but really maybe 5 minutes into the game it seemed impossible to lose. Ahhhh… the good ole days.

It’s been such a long time since we had real meaningful moments like that to cheer about. I can’t wait for it to really matter again.

A family friend was getting married the next day and they were having a pre-wedding bbq the night of this game. I remember she was upset that everybody, including the groom, was just crowded around the TV yelling every time they scored. I wasn’t super into being at the bbq, so at least the game made it a night to remember.

I was a junior in high school, and that evening was commencement. I was in the band, so I was required to attend. Several of us smuggled in walkman radios, and one person even smuggled in a battery powered TV. We listened to the game while commencement was going on, and celebrated wildly for each goal. The superintendent eventually came out for their speech, and announced the score of the game for those in the audience: Avalanche 0, Detroit 6. 3,000+ people in attendance cheered loudly. Came home and watched the game recording on VHS.

I really couldn’t believe this happened, and if I’m being honest I still don’t. But hey, I’m not complaining

Used to cut out all the photos from newspapers and cover my room with them. That’s something that’ll never happen again. Ever changing world.

I don’t think I’ve ever hated a rival as bad as this Avs team.
