  1. So they hire a guy who's done nothing but go through coaches and when's the last time hes made the playoffs ? Smh …shanny needs to go …

  2. Makes no sense. Calgary has underperformed under this gm . Only the leafs would bring in a new guy worse than their x gm

  3. underwhelimg signing. Mediocrity is the standard when it comes to sports in this town. Just look at the jays too. Only Masai had the balls to make a franchise altering trade which was actually frowned upon by the fans at the time…and we wonder why we never win anything here. I'm done with these teams. Go Vegas Knights !

  4. I remember back when Benning was still GM of the Canucks and Treliving the Flames, I always wondered who would get fired first between the two of them. Don't hold him in high regard.

  5. Canโ€™t be worse than Dubas. Kyle ignored the template necessary for success. Four finesse forwards, average goaltending and defence will never be conducive with winning a Stanley Cup. So, it will take awhile to fix the mess Kyle left behind.

  6. Congrats Dubas haters. You now have an GM who ruined Calgary and never made it past the second round in his entire career.

  7. This hire feels regressive. Treliving may not be a BAD GM I guess, but is he anything better than average/replacement-level? He brings nothing to the table that merits excitement. He feels safe. He feels like he's being hired to be a bureaucrat rather than someone to bring in a new vision. Honestly, it kind of just seems like Shanahan should have named himself the GM at this point, and made Treliving is "Senior Assistant GM" or whatever. Shanny already decided to bring back the Core 4. That decision sets the direction of the franchise for at least the next 2 years. Pridham will do the cap wizardry to find a way to ice a full roster of professional hockey players with 4 or 5 guys making so much. What is Treliving even going to do other than be a mouthpiece?

  8. I don't have a problem with this hire. I think he's had some success in Calgary and he matches up nicely with the organization.

  9. Treliving may not be the best choice but there are a lot of deadlines to consider and the Leafs need some sort of shakeup. We'll see what happens.

  10. Brad Treliving would have made a lot more money working for his fatherโ€™s Boston Pizza empire.

  11. Give it time and the Loser Leafs Lovers will elevate him to Sam Pollock status in no time!

  12. I believe 1st year will be a status quo with some tinkering to replace UFA's. Coach will be allowed to stay for next year, once Treliving learns players he will make his moves by next year if not by March deadline.

  13. I would call it a reactive choice, not a bad one necessarily. When you have "core four" uncertainty, and high-value player decisions looming, you don't engage in a long hiring process to select an exciting, novel thinker. You hire someone to get you through the next six months, and evaluate him from there.

If they had hired a riskier choice AND the contracts blew up in their face? They'd lose the fanbase big time.

  14. 7 years of losing and Shanahan offered a 5 year contract ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

  15. Stay off the phone during the podcast, JD. Don't get bad habits from Sam McKee. It is rude and disrespectful to your guest.

  16. How does Friedman have a job? This conversation is like eating cardboard, he gives absolutely nothing for answers. Seems totally unaware unprepared, even a lack of imagination. It is crazy that people care in this garbage as beneficial.

  17. If Kerfoot and Holl are gone then by default, Sheldon will be forced to use different personnel which will make him a better coach.

  18. We built something pretty special here in the last 5 years. One of the best records in the league….playoffs every year…a good, smart, forward thinking GM…….this is a sad day….we just took a big step back…….this guy has done nothing, won nothing….team did not even make the playoffs again last year not to mention all the terrible deals, sighing's over the last 9 years….go check, horrendous…..no upgrade….terrible decision…. a sad day for leafs nation.

  19. There's no limit to how much you can fail and still get hired in the NHL as long as you're a "good hockey guy" aka an already wealthy old white guy

  20. Look if Mathews wants to stay in Toronto he needs to sign by July 1st. If not we cannot go down like we did with Sundin! Toronto can set up their team for years with trading pieces. If they ask him and three is doubt, trade him. How can you take chances like thisโ€ฆ itโ€™s too risky and if he gets traded or doesnโ€™t sign the Toronto maple leaf fans will eat him alive for the rest of his career! He either goes down as a God or he is the biggest villain!!

  21. Looks like Leafs remain a fun and interesting club to follow. Will be interesting if Treliving will use his most significant expertise & experience by moving Matthews – that is unless Matthews just waits out his contract – as JT did in New York?

  22. A franchise with nothing but failures hired a GM that know only failures. Ironic and quite fitting ๐Ÿคฃ

  23. How many GMs don't make decisions by committee and by the sounds of it and the size of the Leafs front office is no different

  24. Nothing has changed if they keep those core four…
    A dysfunctional organization
I've been saying this for four years.

  25. Team is a joke Brendan shanahan should have been fired

  26. So long as the shanadisaster and the ownership board continue to interfere, it doesn't matter who the GM is. Moving on……….

  27. I think the Leafs were desperate to make this move, cuz the top head coaches are being snapped up by other teams…

Wonder if history will repeat itself with Treliving, but this time it'll be with Matthews instead of Tkachuk…
