Doug Armstrong said today he doesn’t anticipate the need to use the buyout option for the Blues and that’s not surprising since he’s never bought out a contract.

Scandella possibly to start the year on LTIR? Or Doug got something up his sleeve? Time will tell.

Is this a “Dog bites man” story or even less?

    Like “Man walks dog” story?

I mean I’m glad OP posted it just to remind us all how responsible Army is in this regard. Just wasn’t unexpected.

Buying out Scandella saves $2 million on the 23-24 cap, but you give back $1 million in 24-25, so it’s not really that useful for him.

I think the bigger issue is – he refuses to give out NMCs because he wants to retain his flexibility to remove players from the roster, but he also refuses to buy out players. So he’s essentially giving out de facto NMCs without getting anything additional in return.

  4. Who was the last player to be bought out? Jay McKee comes to mind.

NMCs are a thing, but it seems that they can be mutually agreed to be set aside, as seen in Tarasenko’s case (I’m assuming he had one).
