Not signing these players is an indictment on the scouting at the time rather than management now.

And it was a fucked up year, so I think a do-over is warranted.

Of course, if one of them goes on to play plenty of NHL games elsewhere, that’s obviously a miss as well. Mangiapane re-entered the draft and the flames snagged him on his second time through. A little different since he wasn’t drafted the first time, but nevertheless. A lot of teams missed on him.

I’m really only disappointed we didn’t sign Whynot…

…and I’ll admit 99% of that is just because of memes.

only realistic player from that group that could have sniffed the nhl was Jack Beck.

This could also have been indicative of a plan to make some trades – if we sell some UFAs in hockey trades we may be taking on more contracts than we send away. It would suck to have to pay to get another team to take a contract, its easier to let these guys walk.

The decisions of a GM usually take 5 to 10 years to judge. If these players bounce around the ECHL before retiring it was the right decision to not sign the, but if they become good NHL players it would be a mistake.

They could be wrong about this but y’all are crying about long shot players that aren’t even good AHL players at this point.

Also consider none of you actually watch or scout these players like the team does. There is a chasm between the information we have and they have.

Perhaps Conroy anticipates needing those spots. The “criticism” seems largely imagined to me.
