They hired Hextall and Burke to put a different supporting cast around the core for another shot at glory. They did. They also missed the playoffs. What is Dubas gonna do? Get better 4th liners? As a Pens fan I would not hate a rebuild right now.

I still don't understand how they took this guy who built a team that won one round in 5 years and made him Pres of hockey ops. He put the Leafs in the crappy situation they are in now, and when the going gets tough he just leaves the toys in the room and expects someone else to clean up the mess. And before anyone says he didn't have the autonomy because of Shanny controlling, do you actually believe Fenway will give him more leeway and freedom? You think he is going to be LESS constrained than Shanahan is at MLSE?
Also, the guy leaves the Leafs because he didn't have as much control as he wanted while being GM, and now he's going to do the exact thing to his GM that Shanahan did to him. Ironic, isn't it?

Real pens fans just wanna see the guys retire together and that’s why they resigned Malkin and letang. If we can win great but our guys have won enough for our city we owe it to them to let them finish their careers together. Leaf fans would understand if they had any loyalty to the players and didn’t just care about winning

Malkin played every game this season
He did not "paint himself into a corner" by asking who would bet against 87, 71, 58. You can still trade people after you've said that. (NMCs not included in this statement) All you have to say when trading 71 for 2-3 other players is that you got the better deal overall. It is odd to say he should not have praised the core or should have done so differently. Seriously, it is part of his job to promote the team.
Keep in mind that to make it to the conference finals means you are one of the top 4 teams, or top 12.5%. That's pretty elite company every year.

as a pens fan i think kyle is the perfect guy to get this team back to a competitive streak and back into the playoffs. however, he shouldn't trade any of the old guard yet, at least not until sid's contract is up.
The second you said he would trade back this channel lost all intregrity. The Penguins will draft as high as they can this draft. This will be the most talented player they've taken in over a decade. If anything, he packages up all those old guys for picks. We aren't trading our 1st for a 2nd and a 4th?!! Is this a Toronto fan page?
