The leafs have been all in for the past 4 seasons. Nothing is going to change with Minnesota legend O'Reilly.
Sammy does have better stats than Vasilevskiy this year, so there is that. Think they needed O'Reilly though.

Why didn’t they trade for defenceman like they’ve needed for the past 6-7 years? I’m not sure why dubas keeps thinking that a team with probably the best offence on paper needs more high end forwards. Genuinely, if you take out Morgan reilly and Rasmus sandin, they have an ahl d core without muzzin. They also have crappy goaltending. I’m really high on o’reilly but unless he plays defence he won’t change their playoff success.
Ryan O’rielly is a LEADER. He is all-in and if the boys are all in as well he will absolutely lead the Leafs to the promised land.

It all means that the GM is on his last year of his contract and he is fired if they don't perform.
I think I would have targeted a defensemen. They already have no issues offensively.

Oreilly is a slug, knocked Tavares to the wing.. now two slow players with Marner… frame it how you want, take whatever positives you can make up. but I dunno, 3rd line center looks better
Every trade made the brain trust believes its a trade that gives them a cup. From back to John Tavares tp Matt Murray, whom Murray turned out to be as predicted by naysayers. Those that have Cup rings really don't have anything left to prove. O'Reilly a rental off of a broken foot and a Cup ring already sacrificed his body to get one and has slowed down a lot in 13 NHL seasons. Those unproven players with big salaries that don't have a cup ring aren't willing to sacrifice their bodies. Its evident in their regular season pond hockey play and their style. Lastly the biased Leaf media needs to draw some objective conclusion after the team plays some other contending teams with their rentals. The subjective delusional articles full of speculation and assumption basically point to Stanley Cup parade route spots being up for sale on ebay. The media pumps so much smoke it just makes the fan that much more demoralized when the unrealized holy grail continues to be so. With the tough Eastern conference of Bruins, Canes, Bolts, Devils and Rangers beating each other down in the playoffs there will be nothing left for the West.
Their forward corps are definitely upgraded but their defense and goaltending is still not good enough to get them far.

They aren’t done yet. If I’m the leafs I empty the cupboard and try to get Chycrun (who is under contract for two more years at 4.5 mil) and a supplementary d guy like Schenn. Gotta give up Knies Robertson and 2024 first rounder.
I think they stay put on goalies Murray/Samsonov/Woll get the job done.
You'd think they'd try for a defense player like Karlsson or someone like him. The Leafs are heavy on offense, like the Oilers to. They have a great offense but the defense game is kind of killing them. I'd be surprised if edmonton got Karlsson tbh.
But, I'd love to see edm vs tor for the Stanley Cup.

The Toronto Maple Leafs do not have a goalie that can steal a game they do not deserve to win. And in every playoff round there will be one game the other team will deserve to win…. That's the game the Leafs need to win and we just don't have the goalie that can do that. I like O'Reilly and I'm glad he's a Leaf. I like Acciari too. But I would have liked to have seen them give up a first round pick for a goalie that can steal a game now and then.

The Leafs have always been close to going deep in the playoffs. They can add good players each time but without real heart and killer instinct they will fail. This acquisition is promising. They showed stronger will against Tampa last year than the year previous against Montreal but they must summon a fierceness from their psyches if they want to go deep into the playoffs and ultimately challenge for the Stanley Cup.

Been in TO for almost 15 yrs.watched and have become a Leafs fan. The difference I see this year is that there's no laziness out of key players…Kessel, Phaneuf, Nylander…. But Nylander is playing unreal this year, like we knew he could. Stanley might be coming back to Canada this year and poor ole JT can finally retire
