Owen Power’s decision to stay in school over joining the Sabres is a huge boost for Team Canada

It’s not often the first overall pick doesn’t jump straight to the NHL. Erik Johnson opted to spend a season in school after being the top pick in 2006. This year, Michigan defenceman Owen Power decided to stay in school instead of jumping to the Sabres and, as Mark Masters reports, that decision is a huge boost for Canada’s World Junior team.

  1. I would decide to stay at school to avoid playing on the sabres too

  2. he is probably depressed at the idea of joining the sabres. Buffalo about to waste another elite talent

  3. Idk I think the most fascinating part of this whole thing is that Shane Wright can play bumper on a power play. Is there honestly anything he can’t do?

  4. Power just might complete college and become a NHL UFA upon graduation much like Fox and Vesey did. Knowing if a player is going to sign with the team should be the utmost importance when drafting first overall. For the Sabres and their fans, I hope he signs this summer. But he just might want to keep his options open especially if he can avoid the train wreck in Buffalo.

  5. Playing college hockey in Michigan has gotta be way better than playing in Buffalo, no brainer!

  6. Im a Canadian and a Sabres fan so I was fine with either decision and I ultimately think he made the right one going back to school

  7. The Sabres still have A LOT to prove, at least to this fan they do—some .500 hockey and a playoff berth would be nice especially after a decade of FAILURE…I have expectations and would like to see some results! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  8. Could Power be the first #1 pick to pull a Vessey and wait out playing for the Sabres to eventually become a UFA?!

  9. I find a winning lottery ticket and I’m just gonna throw it out because I want to stay in school

  10. He should demand a trade out of Buffalo, Sabres ruin young players lately.

  11. Lol the fact that Team Canada is gunna have the first overall pick from 2021 in Owen Power, the First overall pick for 2022 in Shane Wright, and the first overall pick for 2023 in Connor Bedard all the same team is insane.

  12. Owen power will have no future in a shit league like the nhl , shoudda played football or volleyball or even ringette, nhl will ruin your career

  13. You know I’m afraid that the NHL will become like the NBA where the players can leave their teams whenever they want

  14. That's how much you losers no. Sabres have a great group of young kids coming up he'll fit in just fine

  15. We’re letting the boy marinate. Can’t wait to see him take the ice when he’s ready. We got Tuch back baby

  16. I respect his decision you got your whole life to be in the nhl but those university years go by so quick so gotta cherish them

  17. I’d stay all 4 years and become a free agent rather than play for the sabres
