Ohhh, I think even Bruins fans had to cheer that one … and still do, like I just did. I would love to have been a fly on the wall to see the look on the faces of the entire Bruins bench … and I am a lifelong, hardcore, diehard B's fan. Oh my God, they must have almost pooped a pink Twinkie! No disrespect to my own team of course, but I have to give credit where it is due … that was one incredible shot!
Brandon Slater was correct about Billy Smith. Though he didn't take the initial shot Billy Smith was awarded a goal. It's a technicality that people will debate but thats how the stats show it. Like it or not it was Smith that was the first to get a goal not Hextall …at least not in the traditional way. Hextall though was the first goalie to get a goal in the playoffs though, I'll give him that.
I was at this game….sitting around fifteen rows behind the net so we saw it coming right at us. The place went nuts and the game itself was great since it had the feel of a playoff game since it was the Bruins.
It should say: First netminder to score a goal – with a shot on goal. (Billy Smith had earlier scored because he was the last player to touch the puck before an own goal.) Five times in the regular season (and 2 others in the playoffs), a goalie has scored a goal with a shot on goal…most recently, Mike Smith in October 2013).

Gene Hart: Boy he could score sometimes, especially in a situation like this
*Hextall scores 3 seconds later*
0:15 Hextall Looking For A Goal! Down The Ice!
0:18 Score! Ron Hextall!

I never realized how much this mask looks like Martin Broduer's. Wonder if this is where he got the inspiration for the look?
has an nhl goalie ever sored when it was not empty net?
Flyers suck. Not even in the playoff's this year! HA
What yea is this video
I was there to see it. And it was in our end
Has to be one of the best goal scores in the history of the NHL
I'm watching this after Ron Hextall was fired by the Flyers
actully billy smith was the first golie to get a goal
You guys are dumb, Ron is the first. Billy was credited for the goal but did not shoot it. Ron shot it and got the goal. LET’S GO FLYERS, LET’S GO!
We bleed Black & Orange.
The 12 dislike is berry for not seeing it
Wonder if a father forced his son to leave early to beat traffic for real like Murray forced Barry and missed the goal
AGAINST BOSTON.. HAHAHAHA HOW SWEET IT WAS …..
That "announcer" was Fred Cusick. The greatest play-by-play man in Bruins history. Made an amazing duo with Derek Sanderson for years.
Billy Smith got the first goal
Billy smith was the first
I was not at the game and I also had to leave early.
Greatest Goal Ever!
I just read about this on Reddit then I looked it up on YouTube and was able to witness it
