These guys are a joke. In the summary of #1OA, they had literally *just said* it’s a top 3 of Bedard, Fantilli, and Carlsson. *Why* in the *fuck* would we take someone outside of that??? It’s another example of National Media™️ saying “DAE LOL ‘LUMBUS. Can’t have a top player go there!”

Another day another Will Smith mock. Wheeler makes the pick at 3 but has Carlsson higher in his rankings. At the end of the day, if CBJ selects Smith I am okay with it. With the ties to the Sweden world team this year it will be an informed decision.

I really don’t think it’s a personal insult…they’re mock drafting based on their opinions of roster needs and Wheeler has said before that he loves the fit of Smith with our forward group.
I don’t think we should scoff at Smith either. He has an extremely high offensive ceiling even if Carlsson is a bit more well rounded. Both are considered to be in the “big 5” and both are possible. I do personally lean Carlsson but Smith is absolutely no slouch
They know exactly what they’re doing. If they went chalk and had Carlsson going 3rd and then Smith-Michkov in some order, nobody shares it or talks about it.
It’s just like the NFL Draft coverage trying to sneak Anthony Richardson as the #1 pick after months of Young/Stroud. They’re just trying to generate clicks and views. Going with the consensus opinion only works for so long.
The Athletic needs more fans of different teams clicking these, and this gets Jackets fans angry and Sharks/Canadiens fans excited

Honestly, if we look back on this draft in 5 years I think the difference between Smith and Carlsson is going to be less pronounced than people think. Imho I think Smith’s defensive capabilities are undersold a bit and he’s spoken to wanting to take on a PK role at BC this year and working towards that. I agree that I think Carlsson is going to be the better player, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up in the same tier of player (1a/1b) as well.
