[Donnie&Dhali] Rick Dhaliwal says Luke Schenn is talking with the Leafs because he wants to stay in Toronto. He’s looking for some term and trade protection. Wants to play for a winner. Treliving tried to acquire Schenn at the deadline

I’d totally give him a 10 team No Trade List or something like that, but as much as I love Schenn he’s getting older and I’m not sure how comfortable I’d be with a full NMC

Will be interesting to see if they can settle on term. Sounds like he wants to make this home base. I’d give him 2 years around the same price.

  3. BlueLuxin

Give him both. Assuming he comes cheap

Please – if nothing else, he and Rielly were dynamite together. Upgrade on Holl to play with Brodie, someone who can actually move the puck, and we’re in business.

    Please stay I’ll behave I swear 🙏

I don’t mind him on league minimum for three years and no trade (not move). If he drops off, he can “play” for the Marlies.

Yeah why not, but you’re getting under a mill. Give him the Giordano deal and call it a night

Term for older players always scare me a bit as their play can decline rapidly when they are old – Simmonds, Gio, Marleau, etc. I prefer renewable one year deals for older guys like Spezza did.

give him a fully buriable contract and a 16 team NTC.
    1.150M x 2 or 3 years

League min for like 4 years is good for me.

Him with Rielly was fucking amazing, give him term and protection for like cheap if he wants.

What is going in with the $ amounts in this thread?

The man is going to make at least double per season what Timmins was given.

SCHENN IS THE TYPE OF A GUY YOU NEED IN PLAYOFFS!! SO PLEASE SIGN HIM!!!

He’s the one player from Dubas disastrous trade deadline acquisitions that I would keep on the rooster

    > he wants to stay in Toronto

    > Wants to play for a winner

    Well… which is it, Luke?!

give him an 8 year 800k contract, purely for vibes. If were being real any contract Schenn gets is likely never becoming an Albatross because the cap hit will be low enough that it can be buried.

If we’re being realistic though, I’d say 3 years at 1-1.5 with a NMC. Schenn might be getting older, but 1-1.5 isn’t too difficult to bury in the minors or use as the 7th D.

Would love for Schenn to sign a 2 year x 900k deal, he unleashed the best version of Reilly these playoffs and having a dman back there was such a breath of fresh air. He’s turning 34 later this year, he’ll be with us til he’s 36. But the Leafs D core IMO is getting old / slower – Mo’s 29, Brodie 33, McCabe turning 30, and then you got Gio at 75. Lilly 24, Timmins turning 25. We gotta get rid of Brodie and sign Soucy (turning 29).

But although it sounds like I’m not making a defence core decision solely based on age it’s also performance and value and I see Brodie fetching us best value.

  18. Schenn is currently 33 so the max term I would go is 3 years in the 1 to 1.5 million range with limited NTC. I can see why he would want some no trade protection since he has a young family.

I think the Leafs will resign him. It’s pretty clear that he wants to stay in Toronto.
