According to Arpon Basu, it doesn’t look like Pierre-Luc Dubois would take a “hometown discount” for the Habs

You can’t win a cup with a 60 point player making $9M. The cap is going up but still not worth it.

  2. Thaddeauz

If he is seriously asking for 9M$ he can play elsewhere.

  3. bsaures

Ya screw that even after the cap jump he isnt a 9 million guy

  4. Sciencepol1983

J’aurais un peu de misère à me justifier de payer plus pour PLD que le contrat de Suzuki…

Ils ont des points assez similaires les 2 dernières années, Suzuki est un peu plus jeune, mais un centre…

  5. The9inchguy

He is not a 9 million a year player, if he ask that, he can go fuck himself.

He never had a season with more than 65 points and this guy wants a better salary than the captain of the team?

He’s going to be a locker room cancer.

  6. JamJam130

If he wants 9M no thanks, his career high is 63 points

I think he’ll accept around 8-8.5M max, it’s still fair money

  7. If he wants more than 8.5m/yr he can fuck off.

Career high points is 63, yeah he’s only 24, but the production doesn’t warrant what he’d get in free agency.

  8. WintertimeLivingEasy

Forsberg signed 8.5 a year ago lol, Hintz also signed 8.5.

    He’s worth 8 max.

Interesting tidbit in that same article: Apparently the Habs are not interested at all in Carter Hart. They say it’s a non-starter. I wonder why?

  10. shogun2909

Key word is « likely », second thing is that Brisson is his agent and his well aware of Mtl preferred salary structure

  11. ChuckKiddman

I figured a guy who has been saddled in two markets where he clearly was unhappy would be more open to exploring options in places he would be happier by not hamstringing the team he would want to play for but I guess not? We will see

  12. Leftover-Lefty

Asking and what he’ll get are two different things

  13. Et-Le-But

Did anybody actually expect Brisson to come out and say $9M for everybody but Montreal. If he goes to Montreal, then like $7.5M max.

  14. flepine44

Article comes out with rumours :

    Fans : Fuck PLD

Chill out a bit, there is always some truth and some speculation in those

  15. bathbwoi

Ain’t no one giving this guy 9 mil even if it’s a contending team. Pierre Copium Dubois

  16. GibierJaune

    2 things:

    1. A player can *ask* for an amount, but that’s just negotiations; start high, settle in the middle.
    2. Dubois has shown he can’t be relied upon for long term, twice already in his young career. GMs might be reluctant in committing that much money to him for a long time. He might have to settle for a little less than what he’s *asking* for, in Montreal or somewhere else.

  17. WesMcCauley

This whole PLD thing is wild 😂😂 first he wants out, Jets fans angry, Habs fans love him

Rumour says he wants 9M, Habs fans angry

He managed to simultaneously anger both fan bases in 24 hours

  18. juliusceasarsalads

On an 8 year deal id still do that, even though I think it’s a bit high for him. The cap is going to be going up in the next few years and more and more bad money is going to come off the books in the next few years, 9m a year is going to look and feel different for this team in 3-4 years. Now I don’t want Hughes to just open the chequebook for him obviously, see if they can get him down to the 8-8.5M range. But if they can’t and he’s dead set on 9 it’s not a dealbreaker for me

  19. juliusceasarsalads

Wait, I just had a thought. Any chance this is PLD and his agent further weakening the leverage the Jets have to ensure that he gets traded to the Habs? If he makes it known that he’s looking for an overpay on his next contract then it might make teams that he would look to trade for him as a rental for a year with the hopes to convince him to stay less likely to trade for him if they know he’s looking to get paid more than he’s worth?

  20. reddit_again__

Everyone needs to chill here and realize this is just a starting number in the negotiation. He likely can be signed for around 8, maybe a little more and that’s very much worth it. Solid UFA talent is expensive, but needed to build a contender.

  21. 0bl1v10n204

I like PLD and I’d love to have him in Montreal. He does not deserve 9m/yr, especially when the two best players on the team are locked in at less than 8m. Caufield took 7.85 as a respect factor to Captain Nick’s 7.875. If he wants 9, let him go somewhere else.

  22. mikegimik

What team will feel comfortable giving him 9 mil when all he has done for the past few years is pout, give up and express through every interlocutor his desire to be around family and play for Montreal? I would never feel confident or comfortable if I was any other team with him in my lineup. One bad shift, one bad coach, and he’s off to his corner to sulk. Gross. Just stay away HuGo.

  23. NewZanada

Sounds like his agent planting ideas in the zeitgeist to try and negotiate as high a salary as possible, because he has factors working against having negotiation power. This is a tactic to balance those out a bit.

I take this as a positive sign.

  24. SourMilk69420

If he won’t take a contract similar to suzuki than don’t sign him

  25. NotJoeMoses

Don’t sign good players to bad contracts.

  26. habulous74

    Lol then fuck him.

He isn’t worth more than Suzuki or Caufield. TBH I’ve never been impressed by him. He was utterly invisible in the Jets series against us in ’21.

  27. 9M$ hahahaha…. I’ll pass.

9M$ for one of the league biggest diva… no thanks

  28. Fedquip

7.8m + 2m sponsorship deal with Bell…. I am sure other teams do this, right?

  29. Capable-Mobile-8260

If you want more than the captain and lead goal scorer get bent buddy. I get the taxes are high but if money is all that matters to him then we don’t want him anyway!
