The NHL revealed that the New Jersey Devils’ front office will meet with Timo Meier within the next few days to begin his contract negotiation. As for Jesper Bratt, his agent (Joakim Persson) met with the media to inform them how talks were going between him and Tom Fitzgerald. Pierre LeBrun has an interesting theory as to why Bratt’s camp might be stalling the contract discussions.

Fuck this guy seriously. trade his right or something. this is insane. if you cant get him 8 mil or under it's gonna hurt the devils long term. I hope Tom has a really good plan going forward.
many teams would like a player like Meier but there are literally only 2-3 teams that can afford him. And no team would give him 8x10M. Zero!!!! He is not worth that contract. If he wants that let him play on the teams like Arizona I am sure he is gonna be happy there. In the east maybe only Buffalo can make that deal (8x10M) happen. Also you always leave some cap space (2-3M) for a chance to do some trades during the deadline to make the team better
He’s not getting 8×10, that’s just a starting point for Meier’s camp. They know their not getting that, but you have to set a high value when you’re trying to negotiate salary. Not different from the real world.
From there it’s give or take. I’m sure Fitz probably started at 8×8.5. You then use existing contracts such as Matthew Tkachuk’s as a benchmark.
bratt is gonna get a similar contract pay to caufield, term may differ but itll be in that ballpark. meier is probably going to be closer to 9, but most likely only is he signs for 8 years if i had to guess.
both are worth 6-7.5 mil a year in my opinion

Very few players in the league are worth 10 million for 8 years. Timo is not one of them and not even close.
If they're both stuck on the money I would offer both bridge deals and look to trade both players in the last year of their contract. Agreeing to 8 years for either could potentially be problematic. Also if they do sign Meier to a lengthy 8 year deal, I don't see Bratt getting the same term, knowing there are other players who need to be signed. I'd be happier with both players getting 3 to 4 year deals.
NHL is always off on their predictions, Meier is not worth 8 years $10 million.
I think that if both players get paid the amount that they want, the bigger money will most likely be on the back end of the new contract.
Trade Bratt for a first and sign Meier. Bratt is not worth a max contract.
I want us to sign bratt and then trade him for lawson crouse.
Severson to the Blue Jackets for a 3rd round pick. Glad we got something for him rather than getting nothing after July 1st when he would have become a UFA…..
Why is everyone so down on Bratt? He is 24, he had 73 points this season (more than Meier who payed over 50 games for an offensive team). This is the kind of player you want to sing long term for 6.5 to 7.5 mil so that in 4 years everyone is screaming what a deal it is.
