Two beautifully conditioned athletes showing complete mastery of their craft. It was Benns indefatigable dogged will to win, aided by a partisan referee, that won the day for the little Englishman. Tragic ending to the career of a truly great fighter.
I can't watch this fight. What happened to Gerald is a tragedy. He was a great fighter, and is a good person.

Benn knew exactly what he was doing by hitting McClellan in back of the head all night.
Thus wasn't a fair fight by any means. Benn was an evil being on this night, truly. He knew the dangers of hitting the back of head like that, and, yet, he still did it.
Complete trash of fighter.
Now do you wonder why he became religious man afterwards? Because he was guilty of nearly killing man for his own pride and greed.
Not every fighter is dishonorable like Benn. Not every person is cheater or dirty one like Benn.

McClellan took so much shots at the back of the head. This referee clearly took part in this tragedy.
I've watched this fight probably 20 times possibly more.
I remember watching this as a 14 year old on the night as an amamture British boxer.
And as much as im a great, 90s british boxing fan.
Something changed in McClellen in round 2, Benn hit him at 4.49 and he was never the same, his reaction times changed, the jab slowed and the mouth guard came out.
Its weird how nobody talks about how many times Benn hit him behind the head

A big part of Benn dominating most rounds is his ability to close the gap between the 2 fighters, something that all of McClellan's previous opponents couldnt do. Benn's style is more aggressive than McClellan and it exposed his lack of defense.

Nigel played a dirty fight with those illegal rabbit punches to the back of the neck/head. It does a lot of permanent horrific damage and even death. Just a sickening fight.

Gerald was the real truth upcoming power puncher he was lanky with wiry strength and tremendously quick speed awareness. Honestly he should of stay with that motto "If it's not broke, don't fix it" whatever happen between Gerald and Stewart he could've of been fix, but to bring amateur trainer to elite world boxing.
Even myself comparing the amateur trainer with Stewart it didn't add up, I kind of knew it was just come a time where things was going to go south. Gerald picked familiarity over quality he sold himself short and he knows that wasn't the right move after Stewart departure….I wish him well for rest of his living days

Mcclellan was spitting his gumshield way back in round 2 so the glancing headbutt is not the factor, benn was hurt him with his hit, but mcclellan what a fighter u was❤

Somebody besides me saw Gerald blinking before this fight ended here and it's ashame but G might got hurt the fight before…The Referee is mostly to blame.
So if this fight had happened today — it would have been stopped when Nigel Benn was no longer throwing punches.
Nothing tragic about this. Mclennan was a psychopathic dog fighting/torturing maniac and deserved his fate.
