Faith Kipyegon looks so good. It's amazing how these records just fall without her even trying. She should certainly run the 10,000 meters while her fitness is at its peak.
We know the hurdles and flat races are not the same, but the fact that Syd can beat 1 of the 2 specialists that have gone sub 49 before is impressive. Without SMU, Paulino is the favorite right now (though Naser is quickly rounding into form). So how I see it. Syd finished between 2 people who will likely medal at worlds with much less experience in the event as a pro.
Outside of Femke and Britton, has any other hurdler gone sub 50 before and/or beat medal contenders in the flat race? Femke is the only other pro that can give specialists a run for their money and Britton is owning both the 400 and 400mh in the NCAA.
Noah's time converts to 9.92 (0.0), still think him making the US 100m Team will be more about other ppl underperforming than a blistering 100m performance from him. Gabby vs Abby if they both stay healthy could be a great US Rivalry right up to at least the LA Olympics! S/O CJ Allen aka Mr Consistent in the 400mH – that USAs race for 2nd & 3rd behind Rai between CJ, Bassitt, Rosser and some collegians like Robinson, Long & Dean will be a dogfight!
And of course a massive S/O to Kipyegon, Girma & Jakob for their WR performances; 17yr old Angelina Topic with a 1.97m HJ NR; and Keely's 1.55.77 outdoor opener 🔥, Athing/Kersee better know what they're doing with having not raced since last July!
I was so annoyed, especially with the commentators who were all expecting Sydney to break the world record or something like this was not her first race of the season or her first 400m in years. It really ticked me off. For those who understand track and field, Sydney was most likely told by her coach to go all out and see where she hits the wall to know what to train for. All those saying Sydney should have known better, should know better. Name another present athlete who opened their season with sub 50?
All of this talk and evaluation in terms of sydney is just astounding. She came in second. Against women who specialize in this discipline. Her first race of the season, she went under 50. There are only a few women in the world currently running you can say that about. She's so good, people are boasting about how Paulino beat her, even though she had to run her down with 50 to go. In the first straight 400 Sidney has raced in years. Literally. It's absolutely comical, that people don't recognize that if she applies herself, Sydney will take over the 400. Hilarious.
Truly and outstanding competition, I thought McLaughlin ran way too fast in her first100m and Paulino just waited to real her in. A few more races in the open 400 will help her. Although I doubt she will try to double at WC, the open and hurdles are too close for enough recovery. Don't forget there's Britton Wilson also in contention for the gold.
I heard Mclaughlin split around 22 seconds the first 200 and 34.95 at 300. If she improves her last 100 throughout the season, that world record might be in trouble.

This Diamond League was indeed epic!
Feels like Lyles is racing at every meet.
Best coverage.

Yea this race a great meet. The women’s 400 definitely lived up to the standard . Three women finish sub 50 💯💯💯 Anna hall is amazing
The only thing about Sydney’s race strategy was Paulino and Naser are closers so their races pick up at 150 and we saw that both of them catch her
Sydney looked great! Who else opened in 49 seconds?
Id be so nervous if I was femke and Dalilah. Once Sydney gets conditioned it’s over for everyone!
With better race tactics SML was good for about 49.4, what is great for an opener. She can do about 49.0 this year. Could be gold.

More events not talks…

Nice wooden bracelet you are wearing! Congrats Gabby Thomas! A Jamaican 🇯🇲 will take Holloway down. It’s written on paper like parchment.
Best Diamond League in a while!!!
Tebogo had a big stumble and still had a better start than Noah Lyles as demonstrated in the splits. The double isnt ever going to happen guys😂.
Britton Wilson can win the WC 400 with a mid 48 seconds.
I think Sydney's strategy was fine. As she builds speed endurance she'll go faster and be more capable of making that strategy work.
The British commentators were awful in terms of technical analysis (for former athletes).

Did anyone else notice that Syd ran the 400m in flats? I’m curious to see what she could do in spikes.
Sydney is going to get better .
