Want it easy? Throw in Sweezey
Svozil had like 90 points in 60 games in junior this year. Really looking forward to how he can translate it to the nhl level
I don’t understand why they got rid of Joonas Korpisalo which was only good cbj goalie
Columbus was a solid team in 2022-2023. The chemistry, injuries and coaching just made them fall short of trying a real playoff push.
Good work as always. A few names I would have mentioned as competing for top-9 roles are Alexandre Texier and Yegor Chinakhov as well as rookie Dmitri Voronkov who is coming over to North America this year. I think they’re definitely going to be higher than Foudy and Bemstrom on the pecking order and Bemstrom’s days may be numbered in Columbus.
Kent Johnson for Lindholm. Actually they can draft a Center with the top 3 pick in a deep draft and have whoever they pick and Johnson has there top 2 centres. I think that’s why them trading for Kevin Hayes makes sense, need a veteran Center to take pressure off of the kids and Hayes is still a good forward
columbus in cap hell
Kent Johnson looked good with Gaudreau in the second half of the season , my guess, they move Sillinger to the wing and draft Carlson . No way Roslovic is playing 2C . Also I think Bemstrom is gone.
Drafting a legit, borderline superstar at 1C (who the Jackets have never truly had, maybe Laine could also help there) would help to an extent. Better coaching would also have a positive impact. One surplus that the Jackets have is RHD and teams seem to need/want them plus the contracts for all but Gudbranson are reasonable.
It's so hard being a Blue Jackets fan… Jmo, but it almost always feels like there is some built-in excuse already prepared as to what made Columbus struggle in a season. It seems like there's always "something" going on that makes the CBJ lose more games than they should. 2022-2023 was all about injuries. Jarmo had better start acting like he gives a crap about building a better team because his job might very well be on the line next season. The Jackets better improve soon.
As a "distant" Blue Jackets fan who was thrilled about there being an NHL team in 2000 but has since come back to reality, I'm just tired of all the built-in excuses. The CBJ are by far one of the most (wrongfully) snake-bitten franchises in NHL history. Columbus fans deserve so much better than what they end up getting. They want a legit reason to cheer for this team. They want deep runs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Going back and forth between mediocrity and inept has gotten old for CBJ fans lightning quick. We were an expansion team in 2000. It's 2023 now, this franchise should start operating like it knows what it wants to do.
Texier coming back, Chinakhov, Voronkov coming over, and they also have Jordan Dumais who was the QMJHL MVP last season and was in a race with Bedard for most of the season for CHL points leader. He's a small guy but hopefully that play translates when he comes probably year after this in 24-25 due to the CHL agreement.
I think in shear numbers alone there's going to be a lot of moves, too many NHL level Dmen that aren't waiver exempt, too many young Wings in particular that need playing time. I think the obvious move is to package some of these guys into a deal for a Center. Lindholm being the ideal option. Scheiffle maybe but that would depend on how his relationship with Laine actually was. Can't see them risking pissing off Patty. I think we're also still in on Hayes if Philly will retain about 30% and get that cap hit down to 4ish million then he's a perfect stop gap until Carlson or Smith are ready to step into that role.
We pretend like Columbus was coached by an actual reputable NHL coach this past season rather than an AHL coach who straight up didn’t improvise once teams learned his tactics. Even without the injuries Columbus would’ve had a losing season last year.
Kent Johnson is listed as a centre at hockeyDB. Is he not a centre? He is going to be a star in this league. I am surprised that Shannon just passed over him like last weeks newspaper. He's a stud who we will be talking about for the next decade.
I think CBJ should absolutely bet on Elvis. The defense is much improved next year, even if they had terrible luck with injuries again, and with the improved defense, he can definitely bounce back. Of course, if they sign Babcock in one of the most moronic moves possible, it won't matter, since all of their top players are going to request trades out of Columbus by week 2.
The Blue Jackets seems to be in pressure to be competitive next season. They’ve got everything but a top end center. Could you see them trade 3rd overall selection for an already top end center in JT Miller? Some add ons might be included from one of the teams
Jarmo has a history of over paying good not great players to try and fix problems
id package both jenner and roslovic and maybe a pick to calgary for a sign and trade for elias lindholm, draft a center and put him on the second line, get him some minutes and maybe next season they could look into playoff contention if they stabilize
concidering lindholm played with goudreau it could massively help them as well
Their center depth is terrible. By far the worst in the division.
Dimitry Voronkov (Russian Tom Wilson) will be centering the 3rd line & Alexandre Texier will be back from playing in Europe on the 3rd line as well. Keep up the great content!
Columbus needs to be careful about getting too competitive, Gaudreau will get upset.
For Calgary, don't forget, Andersson was the left-overs of the second round picks, for trading for Dougie Hamilton, along with Kylington. They need to constantly work on their D core, if they want equal rights to lefts, they may not want to, but thats the way it goes. Jenner's the best they have accord to Hockey Ref for F/offs, subsequently, if you tell people they don't have a proper center, then I'm wondering what are the poorer teams, like Buffalo, Seattle, etc, who don't even have the f/off artists that Columbus has?? Maybe that's a reason they didn't make it too playoffs or checked out early??
Laine will be the #1 center the Jackets have needed forever. Patty's serious, Jarmo sounded excited during an interview with local tv, and he will be given every opportunity to be that 6'5" center everybody wants. Jackets have tons of center depth with Jenner, Roslovic, Sillinger, Kuraly, Johnson, Foudy, Texier, Mckown and Voronkov but no true #1. Laine has a chance to be that guy
Columbus should sign Raanta or a vet goalie that won’t fully take all of their space away
Thanks for the CBJ video Shannon. Reasons I'm optimistic: 1) injuries are healed. 2) Moving on from a coach that they weren't playing for 3) That bad start last year really sank them, new year is a new opportunity 4) Elvis is likely only going to be better, although he is the biggest question mark. 5) The young players like Sillinger, Chinakov, Johnson, Marchenko and Boqvist are a year older and more experienced 6) The additional depth to the blue line 7) seeing Jarmo busy is a good sign that he is likely serious about this yeat and likely not done.
I'm not sure where they will finish. I'll be happy with 9th or 10th after last year, as long as they are solid and worth following. And yes, I do agree that the true top center is a big goal to add. I'm pulling for Carlsson or Will Smith at the draft.
rest in peace to Johnny geadreau's remaining career under a loser like babcock.
They are missing a true #1 center. Dubois is available 🙃.
I think it’s important to bring up Texier and our draft pick to discuss next years offense (also Dumais wasn’t mentioned in top prospects). Because of these guys Sillinger will probably be bumped down with Kuraly and Danforth and with a stronger blue line goal scoring might improve. Hopefully Jarmo keeps up this wild off-season and makes more moves in the next couple weeks
Why do these 💩 teams have no cap space? Is there a bigger indictment of poor management than a bad/ mediocre team holding a lot of bad contracts and no room to make the adds they need?
All the moves Columbus made so far takes out my trade idea that Toronto could send Tavares that way and take back a package of lesser cost player/s and pick/s He would fill that number 1 center spot between Laine and Gaudreau short term until one of the kids were ready
We also have Jordan Dumais and Texier and Igor Chinny 🙏
