man if VGK win its gonna be absurd, a brand new team winning a cup within 10 years is insane.
As someone who is a new fan to hockey, it really weird to me that the refs can just say we’re not going to call any obvious penalties… especially in the finals
i dont mind the idea of finishing off the time of a penalty. but it only really works in 1 goal games. Can you imagine it being 5-0 and someone takes an over the glass penalty with 10 seconds left and you have to sit through that for no reason. Also if you had 5 seconds left and you had possession in your zone. just eat it on the boards instead of flipping it down or worse getting an over the boards penalty and risk losing the faceoff and possession.
Technically Pietragelo’s allowed to join the scrum at the end because his penalty is over, Because the game is over. But I agree, the after the whistle crap needs to stop
The most boring series in many years. Why even watch?
That proposed rule has to be the most brain dead tweet I’ve heard, which is saying a lot during these finals. It makes no sense whatsoever. The time left in the game is the time left in the game… That would gift so many unearned games to teams who happen to get a PP and thus a 6 on 4 for two minutes. Give that to a half decent team, and most will capitalize in 2 minutes.
Panthers fans, you are not special for beating the Leafs. That was hilarious.
Here's my take on all of the extras after the whistle: That, in a nutshell, is how the NHL values the health and safety of its players.
They don't. Sure, let them beat the hell out of each other like it's MMA. As long as the league gets paid who cares about the long-term well-being of the players, right? All for the almighty dollar. 🤮
There is no way Pietrangelo intentionally lofted that puck over the glass because there was only 18 seconds left. For one thing, his focus was on the puck and getting to the puck; he's not going to glance up at the clock in that situation.
Players that get emotional or try to intimidate the other team by bullying, need consequences. Look at other sports. The NFL doesn’t allow fighting. A player is ejected from the game if they punch another player. Fighting /punching should not be allowed in the NHL. I realize this will lose some of the fan base but that base is psychopathic. There are lots of possible fans that don’t watch hockey cuz of the fighting. I’m a Sr beer league player at 5’9”, and as one of the faster ones on the ice I get LOTS of hits from bullies, so I KNOW.
I don’t know the solution here, but start with : allow the refs to man handle a perp, take his stick away, grab him by the ear, tackle him, anything, whatever it takes to stop the aggression. Give the refs tazers. If a player retaliates on a ref, full disbarment from the NHL. THEN watch the cheap hits get cleaned up quickly! OR: if a ref singles you out (see ref vs tchachuk after the game ended), you must head straight for the bench with your head down. If you don’t, your season is DONE.
No subsequent discipline is my guess. As for Petro, that to me is a question of did he open the door after the game ended or did the time keeper do it.
Bad suggestion (kill the whole penalty).
The problem with Cam Charron's idea is its an idea for the NHL officials, so they just won't call anything in the last 2 minutes.
I have not watched ANY round 3 or 4 games. ZERO. This is absolutely the worst playoffs in years from round 3 onward. I hate all four of the final four teams. Dallas the best if the bunch. Cannot stand Florida or Vegas.
First and last time I am listening to this fool.
The fact that we have to have these conversations about penalties is prof that it’s a problem but things on the ice don’t matter as Steve said so game 5 is on Tuesday
Ok then you have the penalties you take at the end of the game carry over to the next game 😅
I love at 1:30 how Tkachuk got pushed into hill. After the whistle Pietrangelo just cross checks Tkachuk in the back. At 1:30 left in the game, with empty net
Nope, nothing for coming out of the box early. They were down 2 skaters with the goalie pulled and Florida starts their usual cheap shots at the end of the game. The Knights needed the extra body out there.
I like the idea of having to kill the whole penalty with less than two minutes to go – but I think with NHL referees we may never see a penalty in that situation again .
Florida has been getting away with the after whistle bullshit for the entire playoffs. They did it to Boston and Toronto and Carolina. Vegas has been mostly good at keeping their emotions in check.
Late penalty = penalty shot. Easy fix!
Maybe penalties like Unsportsmanlike Conduct should be carried over to the next game. As Steve is saying here, there is just zero reason NOT to simply go after your opponent after the game. How does the league prevent it from happening? It seems either suspensions or penalties carried over is the only answer.
Should have those penalties carry to the next game….that will make them think twice.
What an embarrassment at the end. The NHL is a joke league. What a bunch of losers. Imagine the end of an NFL , NBA, MLB game and they just start brawling? Grow up NHL Grow the hell up
Fine then both.
25K for Petro joining the scrum.
100K for Tkachuk’s use of a stick as a weapon along with a warning that if he goes Florida Man with his stick one more time he will be suspended, Finals or no.
I do think there were actions in the scrum that should carry over with penalization.
Bennet flying in a cross checking someone at the end of the game? Bad. Very bad. Cause of the fight.
Adin Hill punching with his blocker? Bad.
Tkachuk using his stick to press down on the back of Pietrangelos neck? Really really bad. I think that was the biggest offense, and it was very dangerous. Of all the acts I think it was the most likely suspension, with Hill being the second most likely.
Can't you just speak normally? If you spoke the way you did in this video to me in person, I would think something was wrong with you. Thumbs down.
Make up your mind! "not a league, they don't protect their players." Seems to be something you're on record for saying.
Do you LIKE the league calling penalties? or Do you LIKE the league swallowing the whistle? You bring up the fact that both things happen at this stage of the playoffs but don't seem to be overly happy about it. I would say this to you: before you think there ever needs to be an abundance of caution for the players, just take a gander at the NFL and what it so often looks like on a typical Sunday now. If you're younger you may not remember what it was but frankly, I often find it unwatchable now with the way offenses just run up and down the field and defenses aren't even allowed to make hard hitting plays any more. Now, do I want to see anyone injured to the point of paralysis or death? No but at this point I'm not even sure why any part of the salary cap is even spent on defense any more. Ya know?
Could we have a Cup Check where we talk about something, anything, besides officiating???
Tkachuk is one of the dirtiest players in the nhl
panthers were down 3 to 1 against the best team in the league ever ans knocked them out inthe first round.
Well said. All of it. SD for player safety czar!
I think if that rule got put in place, you'd see a massive drop in penalties in the last 2 minutes. Officials wouldn't want to call them and leading teams wouldn't want to kill that off. It would also make the losing team go nuclear at the end of games as they try their hardest to draw a penalty. Extra time in hockey would be coveted more than anything else in a given game. It might actually ruin the endings of many games, example: losing team tries to draw a penalty by any means and they accidentally cause a trip or a slash, suddenly they're in the box and that 5 on 4 essentially ends the game. More games would end unceremoniously due to penalties.
It’s wild that 4/9 of the panthers goals were Vegas own goals/caroms lol
You look like a masculine but less murderous version of Alec Baldwin.
It is too late for this series, but add a rule that any unsportsmanlike penalties (2 min or 10min) after the horn become 2 min penalty to start the player's next game. Does that mean that the team that was the victim might not get the powerplay during the regular season? Yes, but it is better than nothing.
Look… I'm not disagreeing with the points made in this video. However, I also think nobody is having this conversation about changing the penalty rules if this isn't a Vegas series.
I don’t know why people have issues with shots and scrums. Personally, I love small mind games, seeing who loses their cool and who doesn’t react at all. The mental and physical warfare. That’s hockey at it’s core and shouldn’t go away. But hey, as someone who actually played hockey at a decent level, that’s just my option. I just don’t understand the anger towards rough chippy play and scrums.
1000th like. BTW how that ice taste sam bennett? Salt bag
Why am i thinking if it had been Toronto instead of Vegas the refs would have been a non issue…do better Steve, it makes you look like an uneducated anamorphic clown
If you look at recent Stanley cup champs, these are teams that have been good for a long period of time, tampa went to the finals in 2015 and were good until 2020 and 2021, Colorado was a beast and won the presidents trophy the year before they won, Washington was good but missed the playoffs a few times before they finally did it, Vegas who went to the cup in their first year has been good except last year every year. So you would assume teams like Carolina, Oilers, New York would sooner or later get over the hump? Hope to see at least one or all of these teams go all the way
I miss watching a Stanley cup game with Steve
Vegas is winning it at home
