  1. So, one of the rationales of drafting Manitoba born players is the higher probability they’ll want to sign long term to stay in Winnipeg because they love the peculiar features of this province.

Jacob Trouba being American born longed to play in Detroit or any major US city.

  2. I say draft based on the needs of the team for the future. Just compete, that's all we want.

  3. very easy….

if you were offered millions of dollars Would you stay in the Shit hole of Winnipeg/ Manitoba…? lol i dont blame any Manitoba's for wanting to live anywhere..

thats why jets get europeans… They come from overseas so where ever they play isint home and also they might not know anybetter lol

  4. Absolutely no disrespect, but I despise this narrative that the Winnipeg/Manitoba media constantly tries to placate its readers with.

Nobody cares. Although the argument could be made that it'll "make it easier for people to want to play here" – that's BS. It creates this ridiculous narrative that Manitobans need to have to stick together because "This place is all we have!"

Get real. That's the last thing I want to see on an NHL team – especially this one.

I think this is honestly a Winnipeg thing – do you ever see or hear someone in Chicago saying "We need more people from Ilinois playing for us"?

  5. Just give us players who give their all for the team. I don't care if they come from the moon.

  6. We could definitely target a few more WHL guys Manitoban or not. Look at the Cup teams going back to LA. We need to stop with the Minnesota/Michigan stockpiling.

  7. works for the Bombers….however that's another kettle of fish. Marc Stone went for the money and a real chance to win a Cup. The big $$ contracts and the allure of playing in a warmer climate are tough to compete against in todays market.

That being said, I don't see any Canadian team winning a Cup in my lifetime and I'm 71 and was born and raised in southern MB. I live in the south Okanagan now, mainly because of the climate and albeit MB is my home, I have no desire to ever return. Vegas will likely win the Cup unless Florida can pull off another "miracle on ice" like they did against Boston….however their core of star players is pretty banged up and not nearly as deep as Vegas. Vegas after only 6 years, was able to compete for a Stanley Cup from the start and they have only gotten deeper and better. Toronto last won the Cup in 67' and they are the supposed Mecca of Canadian hockey, albeit Montreal has won more Stanley Cups including the last one in 93'.

Bettman and the league brass have tilted the ice drastically towards the south and there is no desire for them to see a Stanley Cup played out with Canadian teams in the finals…..mainly because there's simply no profit in it. Look at the Kraken as the latest example of an expansion team going deep in the playoffs in their second year. Toronto hasn't made it past the first round since 93', the last time a Canadian team won a Cup or should I say Patrick Roy won the Cup for Montreal against Gretzky and the Kings.

Canadian teams will be mostly successful within their own markets just because Canadians are so fanatical about hockey. Canadian fans will continue to be delusional about the possibilities of their team winning a Cup and even if they are competitive, like Toronto was, they don't have the depth to compete for the Cup. When Vegas signed Stone and then Eichel you knew the gig was up and they would likely be the next SC winner…..they are one game away from achieving this in only 6 years!

Meanwhile Canadian fans continue to hope their teams will one day win it all…..and sadly, I don't see this happening…..ever. Not even Edmonton with arguably the best two players in the world have seriously been a threat to win it all. Flash and dash are great during the regular season however once the real season begins, teams need to be bigger, yet skilled to endure the post season grind. Edmonton and Toronto won't win with their formula but the fans will keep coming to the arenas…..

Personally, I'd rather watch the CFL which is unpredictable and wacky or women's hockey…..or for entertainment value and excellence, the Penticton Vees Junior A team p.

As for the NHL…..with Bettman and the Board of Governors in total control…..meh!!

  8. The Manitoba players on Vegas are 'all in' for their team and the organization has created a culture that makes it easy for them to be 'all in'.

Namestikov, Neidereiter, and the euro 4th line we ran early in the year due to injuries were 'all in' when given the chance.

If any player in the organization in Winnipeg isn't 'all in', move them for players who know and enjoy the privilege of being in the NHL, with a dedicated fan base.

Congrats on the 2 million lads!

  9. I have being saying for a couple years. Players from MB, SK, & NWOT would help the fan base.
