Should the Canes re-sign Pacioretty?

If Max is *the* solution to improving the offense, we’re in trouble.

If Max is *a* solution to improving the offense, we’re looking really, really good.

At this point, you can’t count on him being there, but if he is, you’re a better team.

I wouldn’t do more than 2 million. We got 3 games out of him this year. 3. Thankfully we gave up nothing to get him in the trade, but I’m not eager to sign him again. If he’ll take like a 1 year deal 1-2 million, then sure, why not, but I’d rather save some money to rollover for next year

Pay him 2M to not play another year? Ok

Love Patches. Wish it had worked out. I’m not sure we should spend even 1m for a guy made out of paper. He’s a great player but his injury got us in a ton of trouble this year and even as a 4th liner, the last thing I want is to need to scramble to replace him.

It’s not fully the Hurricanes choice. The unrestricted free agent market SUCKS so Max’s agent should do his due diligence for what is probably his client’s last contract. Max always has been a player I liked when he was on other teams and appeared to be a real gem when here. But I would absolutely not blame him if he takes a deal from another team willing to gamble on him with a couple guaranteed years above what is considered team friendly from the Canes perspective.

If the doctors think there’s a reasonable chance that he’ll be able to play at or near his level pre-injury AND stay healthy for a reasonable amount of time AND he’s willing to sign for 4th line money, then I’d like to see him back. If he ends up hurt again or not playing great then it’s not a huge loss and if he is able to contribute at the level he used to be able to, that would be a huge help. It would be kind of like buying a lottery ticket for a few bucks. You assume you’ll lose it, but there’s always that chance that it could pay off very well.

He can’t be relied upon to be a contributor though, so someone else with a good chance of being able to contribute all season, and especially in the playoffs, needs to be added to address the scoring / power play problem.

If by “team friendly” you mean one year at league minimum plus maybe performance bonuses, then ok.

A skating Patches is better than anyone we have on the 4th line or could call up. But can he skate? If so, he gets second or third line, for high-end 4th line money, not because he’s 4th line, but to compensate for the risk.

    High-end 4th line money is approx $1.5k.

I think his agent checks free agency cause due diligence but if there’s not someone that gives him stupid money, then offer the krecji contract from this past year.
