Could Kent Johnson Be Drafted 9th By the Canucks?

In all likelihood, he will be gone when the Canucks get their turn, but I can dream for another month before those dreams are dashed.

  1. 3C has been a gaping hole for the Canucks for the past few years. Draft Johnson, sign a UFA C to fill in until Johnson’s ready! Sound plan!

  2. The only team in the top 10 that I think would take a goalie might be Detroit at 6… Maybe Columbus at 5, but it sure seems like their going to lose some major skaters for them, and they probably look to draft replacements… so with all the young skaters Detroit has, I think they're in position to draft and wait for a goalie… Otherwise, I feel like we won't see a goalie go until Calgary at 13.

  3. he reminds of William nylander a bit. but imagine if he reaches his potential and plays with Horvat and Hoglander, that would be one hell of a line.

  4. I could see him not being a coach's favorite. I guess that's why Berniers is ranked highly, despite possibly being less skilled.

  5. Love the kid – and would be happy if VAN got him. However with another light weight player you gotta worried about our team getting punched in the face right in front of the refs like the Sedin's in 2011 – and watching the Habs game is telling me that times they haven't a changed… Still could be petey-lite if he keeps improving.

  6. I had an old pro set cliff ronning card. I remember seeing his stats from some Italian league. Look it up, it's bonkers. He was great

  7. Watch Kent Johnson when he played for Trail in the BCHL. He was a force for the Smoke Eaters. Be nice to see him with the Canucks.

  8. And SOMETIMES when 2 players are being drafted high 1st round and they play in the same line in their draft year, neither turn out all that great. cough Yakupov and Galchenyuk*cough*

  9. I think Detroit and Edmonton really needs a goaltender. Maybe San Jose and LA aswell. Can't wait to see where they end up!

  10. Kinda sounds like Kyle Connor with more passing and less shooting to me. Quick hands, good skating, offensive wizard…but has a hard time driving possession and asserting himself defensively. Sens could do a lot worse than Johnson at number 10 if he falls that low.

  11. I think Detroit will choose Wallstedt, unless for some reason Power or Beniers drop that far. As for the Canucks, I wouldn't be surprised if Benning trades the #9 pick. I hope not, and by chance they do keep the pick, I think Johnson, Edvinsson will be at the #9 spot. Between the two, I definitely take Johnson. However, if Mason McTavish is there at #9, he maybe the player I take instead of Johnson.

  12. It will be interesting to see if Kent's hands hold up against nhl defenders

  13. Imagine back to back goalies at 6 and 7 this draft. For Detroit Bernier was good, but he's a 32 and historically had some troubles, and that's assuming he wants to stay as he's a UFA. Other than that they have a 35 year old Griess and that's about it. For San Jose Jones has fallen off a cliff since 2018 and he's their only NHL goalie under contract. I would love to see them both gambling on an early goalie.

  14. Not a big fan of drafting home town kids, so much pressure on them. Signing them later in their careers is much different though.

  15. Good choice BUT Benning is more worried about getting fired unless he makes an impactful trade and gets to the playoffs. So, you can expect Jim to trade the #9 pick versus waiting for a youngster to mature.
