  1. Caps need a pker 4th liner and someone that can fight instead of 1ST LINER WILSON, Garnet Hathaway checks all those boxes for maybe a bit of a high price, but i think it's worth it.

  2. Apparently, by advanced statistics, Panik is a bigger driver of offense than either Burakovsky or Connelly, and his results were at least as steaky as both of those players. By giving him an extra season, the Capitals–who are really tight up against the Cap with Vrana and some other RFAs to resign–were able to get his cap hit to less than $3 million.

Also, MacLellan obviously prefers to add term to lower the cap hit and cost of the contract, and he's shown to be capable of getting rid of those contracts when necessary. $2.75 and $1.5 million are a lot easier to trade away/buy out than $5.75 and $5.5 million (Niskanen and Orpik, respectively).

  3. I don't agree with the Pavelski signing at all, that's a pretty hefty contract for a guy his age. It's a pretty big risk signing him for 3 years, and honestly even at his current output the 7 million seems a tad steep.

  4. Rumor has it that Pav's and EK65 did not get on all that well and EK65 gets the C!!
