Matvei Michkov is the wildcard prospect in the 2023 NHL Draft. Scouts and analysts regard him as the most talented Russian prospect since Alex Ovechkin — and that his skills are only bested by Connor Bedard. However, there there are several factors that may prevent some NHL clubs from drafting him; most mock drafts indicate he’ll be drafted between 4th and 6th. In this video, I analyze which of the following teams — the San Jose Sharks, Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, and Philadelphia Flyers — is the most likely to draft Matvei Michkov, as I don’t see him falling below 7th. Where have you heard about personality issues from him? I haven't seen any of that
Sharks are getting Smith. Michkov is dropping to 6-8
I think Kirby Dach can develop into an excellent 2nd line centre for the Habs. I do hope we pass on Michkov although it wouldn't upset me if he is chosen. I just hope Habs fans can be patient with this rebuild. Take time and do it right which seems to still be the plan.

I had similar thoughts about Arizona in that they can pick Michkov and still have a fantastic group of young players in their organization even if it doesn't work out. Having said that, some NHL GMs won't let fear guide their picks and will pick who they believe in even if there are risks and I think one of the GMs before Arizona will do that and pick Michkov or will trade their pick to another team that trades up for Michkov. I could see both Detroit and Washington interested in trading up to get Michkov. For Washington it would give them someone as their post OV foundation and for Detroit they could have a team that is close to cup contention by the time Michkov arrives. Plus Yzerman probably has confidence that he is unlikely to be fired before Michkov joins the team.

I can't see a team from the US taking Michkov. The US is getting more and more involved in the conflict and with Putin's regime, I could see the Russian government putting a freeze on it's citizens leaving to the US. Doesn't matter what Michkov says, or what his team is saying, Putin's regime is the wildcard.
Dach has been good at center.

His stock is falling big time. Once thought to the 3rd or 4th overall. His refusal to participate in the combine & now the speculation that he might stay in Russia to play in the KHL has teams hesitant.

Sharks will pass due to contract, and lack of competition due to the fact Russia is banned from international play. Russians were banned from the combine, they are dropping due to Putin and Russia-Ukraine War. So it’ll be hard to get a visa to the us or Canada. So if a team is willing to all of these things will end then that team will draft him
