Colorado Avalanche 2022-2023 Schedule is Released. Andre Burakovsky’s Season Grade!

And we are already on to next season! The NHL released the full season schedule for next season and there are some interesting dates and times for the Colorado Avalanche.

We now know that the Avalanche will welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to Ball Arena on their opening night to raise their Championship banner to the rafters. Win or lose that game, the Avs won’t have much time to celebrate the banner since they play the very next day in Calgary. Nothing like starting off the season with a back to back.

The rest of the schedule is filled with interesting dates. The Avs will get season series’ wrapped up with several east coast teams within a week of their first matchup. They will also have a handful of afternoon games including an 11:00 MT start time against the Detroit Red Wings in March.

All in all, it’s a hockey season, and the Avalanche will be like everyone else in needing to play the schedule that is given to you. This time as Stanley Cup Champs.

We also hand Andre Burakovsky his season grade for last year!

  1. I was really wanting them to take a page from the NFL and give us a rematch of the championship teams. I would’ve been happy with Vegas though. I agree with Chris. Give us a team we hate instead of one that doesn’t really matter to us.

  2. – Before their recent downturn, Chicago has been my favorite Avs opponent in terms of on-ice hockey chemistry (along with Vegas), plus they bring such rich tradition, so I'm fine with opening night. Can't think of a better choice. Good job, league.
    – Literally every year the schedule comes out it is described as "weird". I would think coordinating one for 32 teams is quite the task.
    – That sweater is a nice look, Chris. Definitely should be in the rotation.
    – Good breakdown on Burakovsky, and your grades were mine too. I especially like the stats Chris brought in, some of which were stats one doesn't hear referenced very often and should be talked about more.
    – Tidbit: One of the surprise stories of this past season that's going under-noticed was 34-year old Erik Johnson's durability. Very unexpected to me. He was a horse. Probably the healthiest season of his career.

  3. As a fan of both hockey and football there really isn't much downtime, especially if you follow training camp and the draft for both. My feelings about the schedule is it doesn't matter. We're in a good place that affords us some confidence. I was really impressed with Avs last season during the dog days. Their record during that period was a pretty good indication of their determination and dominance.

  4. My two biggest issues with Burky have been his physicality and, as pretty a shot he has, his telegraph. Oh my gosh, he's had so many open nets that he gave up because he takes so long to fire the puck. I feel he wants it to look pretty. He kind of proved my point in the playoffs when he fired without hesitation. Went right in. Just shows how dangerous he could be if he did that more often. My grade is C in the regular season and B- in the playoffs.

  5. Sorry for missing so many episodes. I still need to watch the episode with producer Drew. Thank you for excellent content guys.

  6. I'm calling it now. Byram is a beast. Lets not forget that before he got injured he was on a calder worthy start for the season and he was getting goals. I can't remember what game it was but he was clutch and put two in the net for the W. What some miss is his defensive ability. Too many people focus on points but Byram's puck security at this point in his career is really good and he'll get back to scoring. Guarantee it. There will be seasons when he and Makar will be racing each other for trophies.

  7. Question for Chris, Kyle, or the column: Where can I watch that "Quest for the Stanley Cup" series that you guys said was so good? Netflix? Prime? YouTube? If it's kind of like those HBO "Hard Knocks" (NFL) or "24/7" (boxing) shows I think I'd really enjoy it. Thanks!

  8. Like a lot of Avs fans I have been frustrated with Andre for all the reasons you guys talked about . Taking nights off, missing the net a ton , and something you didn't bring up……his decision making with the puck especially in his own zone. Risky , dangerous pass attempts , cross ice pass attempts though sticks , legs and bodies. I had a hard time forgiving him for his game changing , brutal giveaway in Game 5 vs Vegas last year but I did ( a bit lol) after his OT goal in game 1 of the final this year. He had 61 points and you pair that with another Cup ring , I say He takes the $ . I am sure there is a team out there that will offer him a 6-7 mill per and that will be too rich for the Avs to match. And I am ok with that .Let him go and Joe can explore other options .

  9. Thanks for another great pod, I'm Definitely going to go to game 1…. I wanna see that banner get raised! WOOOHOOO

  10. Great walk through the schedule. What a shame our first game isn't against someone who would have "enjoyed" watching us raise the banner a bit more!

  11. I would have liked to see Tampa watch the banner raising. Or how salty would blues fans get if they played the blues in the home opener. The game is looking for more fans and to expand… what better than avs blues/lightning on national tv as the season opener? I think they are missing an opportunity here.
