The first domino piece has already fallen for the New Jersey Devils’ offseason. With Damon Severson already off the books, people have been wondering what’s going to happen to the other pending unrestricted free agents for the Devils. It has been confirmed that teams are looking to acquire the negotiating rights of Ryan Graves. Fans have also been debating as to whether or not the team should bring back Miles Wood. Similar to Severson, Wood has been with the organization for a decent amount of time.

Our D situation is getting more and more interesting.
Hamilton, Marino, Jonas S are the only locked players that I can see 100% next year. You can add Luke Hughes to the mix, because he looked ready offensively.
BUT even with Luke, we are missing 2 Dmen for PK. Hamilton and Luke wont do it, leave them fresh for PP.
Bahl's salary is gonna tell us a lot, whether they are onfident he can play 82 games.
I would very much like to keep Graves, but if he wants around 6 mil for 6-8y (looking at recent D signings, it can very well be the case), it might just not work long term.

I wouldn’t mind keeping Graves . Not the grittiest defenseman but somehow his plus/minus is always good .
Great analysis! My only worry about Gravy is how slow he seemed in the postseason. I'm hoping he was just hurt but it worries me a little about committing to him for the future.

I doubt they would get much for Graves or Wood but they can definitely get a couple of late round picks. With this UFA class being a more shallow pool than usual, teams aren't going to want to overspend for players, so there's a better opportunity to grab these guys and have first crack at signing them to extensions. Any return is a good return as opposed to getting nothing at all, so at the very least, they can try to get a pick for Graves and see how things pan out with Bratt and Meier to determine if it's worth signing Wood again or if they really need to shave that salary altogether and bring up Foote.
The pitch to Graves for a team friendly-deal is "you don't want to walk away now and miss winning a Stanley Cup like you did with Colorado."
