The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly made some early decisions on pending unrestricted free agents. David Morassutti gives his thoughts on Michael Bunting, Alexander Kerfoot and Justin Holl not expected to return next season and why that shouldn’t be seen as a surprising decision and one some fans are happy about. Dave moves on to the buyout window opening and if Matt Murray is a prime candidate to be bought out or if there is a scenario/team that would work out better for Toronto to try and get rid of his contract. To end the show, Dave looks at the pending restricted free agents and why Ilya Samsonov’s situation is an interesting case with a new management team involved.

Free Al's Brother.
Al's brother 😂
They SHOULD sign Kampf again…..gotta feeling they won't tho….
Next season all they have to do is plug two holes with Pontus Holmberg and Jared McCann from the Marlies…who are on league minimum deals……that, with letting Kerfoot and Bunting walk they would have the cash to bring back Acciari AND O'Reilly.
Leafs need to sign and trade Nick Robertson….get a D back for him. With Knies here now, Robertson is useless to keep around
Increased role for Justin Holl? 😅😱
Trade down and retain a million, or trade down and retain nothing. All of this is muddied by murray with his no trade claus. He has already nixed a deal to buffalo last year before he came to toronto.
Hes going to say no to a bottomfeeder team like chicago, anaheim, or san jose , so there's no point in theorizing teams like them. Thats not to says hes not going to be traded, it just wont be a complete bottomfeeder.
They can hire Holl as a janitor. So Keefe can still c his lover.
You keep Murray at all cost. Nobody is going to take him. You trade Samsonov and parlay that into a good asset. I’d be running Woll/Murray and when Murray does go down in the season (he will) he ends up on Robidas island and you get another body in season. This team is taking a step back next season, and if a step back leads to 2 steps forward then we as fans should support what that leads to.
Murray is Dubas' guy/. He's already talking with the Leafs to get him over to the Pens. Crosby and Malkin are headed the other way
Trade Murray to Dubas, Dubas really believes in him. Ok that isn't reasonable, Murray has a NMC and not even Dubas wouldn't be stupid enough to trade for Murray. Buy him out. It is unfortunate, but it is the best solution.
Holl. I didn't share in the Holl hate. He was fine as the bottom pair Dman he was paid to be. The problem was Keefe continued to pay him far above his ability. That said I am hoping that Treliving replaces him with a real butcher who will clear the front of the net savagely.
It isn't reasonable to compare Samsonov and Hill. The Golden Knights are one of the best defensive teams in the League with a great coach who places great value on defense. The Leafs are a team with some of the best defensive players in the League, but with others who can't be bothered to defend. I am sure Keefe prefers if his players defend, but if they don't feel like it, he has shown that is OK with that.
Thank god! See ya later
let mike know we are pulling for him and are awaiting his comeback
Leafs 1st rounder is almost the same pick as Chicago's 2nd rounder, but nice try – sounds good when you said it. If I'm Blackhawks G/M give me 1st rounder + Minten.
Buy out Murray AND Tavares – start fresh.
As nice as it would be to give Murray to the hawks, I don't think they'll do it, they have Soderblom who I believe they're going to give a bigger starting role this year. Kind of like a prove it and grow season. They also have Stauber and Commesso who are coming up through the system as well.
After watchimg 2 Warrior teams contend with MCFEE And MCRIMMON after only 6 YEARS in the Leauge WINNING A CUP …They are heads and shoulder above the LEAFS as team builders ! Compared to the hapless amount of MISTAKES that the Leaf Managment made over 9 years which woulf fill a library ! SHANNAHAN AND DUMBAS making mindless huge mistakes plus their refusal to adapt to the GAME are WHY the LEAFS are many many Years away from being a contender period !
Matt Murray cannot be traded. Most teams will be going with young goalies this upcoming year. Plus, there are too many goalies on the market.
