  1. great memories, this was my favorite Boston team, although certainly the Esposito/Orr years were better for championships. Orr was my favorite, but he was in Chicago this season and 1 year away from retiring

  2. I was sixteen years old at this game with a friend sitting in the Stadium section of the old Boston Garden and can still remember the how loud and electric the crowd was after that last OT goal. Could feel the static going down my spine gave me goosebumps i can still feel. it was truly awesome and the most memorable moment ive ever had at a sporting event and ive been to thousands over the years….wow what a feeling that was screaming at the top of our lungs along with 19,000 others after that goal that night…was so amazing to witness.

  3. in the 70's old school goalies FUCKING SUCKED! I mean yes ot and some where good, but LOOK I would've saved that shot anytime.

  4. back when real fans were at the games and it wasnt just lame corporate entertainment…..i am sure the nhl generates this kind of intensity in florida, texas, or the carolinas…lol….

  5. saw the bruins last week, balcony tickets 120 dollars, beers 11bucks, ever have the feeling you've been cheated? what a ripoff. the performance of the team was mediocre.

  6. Hab fan and hate the Bruins but i would become a Bruin fan if only we could have this intensity and fun today..Hockey is crap today..$12 dollars for a ticket back then now it's $12 for just a beer and there's no LaFleur or Park

  7. I may be watching this clip through rose-colored glasses, but 1970s hockey was far more entertaining than today's NHL. Goalies didn't look like zeppelins which meant goals could come from longer range. It made for a more compelling contest.

  8. Cherry should have been playing Gilbert. Cheevers was done. The only mistake Don ever made as Bruins coach. This Canadien team was so good. Would have liked to have had a health Bobby Orr on the Bruins. And Then there is the great Dan Kelly's call! And Chico Resh was really excellent as well.

  9. At the end of his career, Bobby Schmitz couldn't hit an empty net with his shot…totally useless! I guess a broken clocks right twice a day…but it won the game against those pigs!

  10. I was 14 then and washing dishes at a local restaurant and would save my money to always buy Bruins tickets when the Habs came to town. Rooted for the B's but was in awe of Lafleur and the rest of em.    Thx for posting!

  11. All these years later, that goal still sends a chill down my spine.  Talent wise the Bruins didn't match up but, oh boy, did they dig down and give everything they had.  This was a team.

  12. There's really no question at all, not even debateable, that hockey was more entertaining and interesting to watch in the 60's and 70's.Todays super athletes were not better hockey players, sorry kids. The training methods of the day along with the old heavy leather equipment, wooden sticks not bent into a boomerang, antiquated skates, well the players did pretty well then. The players had personality along with no helmets so you could see the guys, not robot video game players you have today.

  13. I am the author of a new book titled Too Many Men on the Ice: The 1978-79 Boston Bruins and the Most Famous Penalty in Hockey History. If this game interests you, you'll definitely enjoy my book. You can order it through Amazon.

  14. The Habs were 59-10-11 that year for 129 points. And that's without overtimes and three point games. The Bruins did well to win two games in this series.

  15. If the Bruins teams from the late 60's and early 70's had the heart these teams from the late 70's had, they'd have won 5 straight cups. They fought the mighty Habs to the death. Hockey was great back then.

  16. Thanks for the classic memory. Just wish someone would post the WSBK-TV38 feed of this game with Fred Cusick's call.

  17. I was 10 year old Canadiens fan and cried when Park scored that overtime goal.

  18. In this comment section:

nothing but old farts stuck in the past who can't comprehend that everything wasn't inherently superior when they were young, it's simply just nostalgia.

Some things were better, but many things were much, much worse. Get with the times or just hurry up and die already.

  19. Great nostalgia but nowhere near as fast and skilled as today's game. Everyone who has played the game agrees, sorry.

  20. Orr fans will hate to read the following, but it's true.. that the Bruins of '77 – '79 were better than the Bruins of Orr & Esposito, '68 – '71. … Since some Orr fans know this, it's never discussed often among hockey fans….. some of which think that Orr was god. …. Nope: he wasn't even the best hockey player ever!

  21. This was hockey at its best….
Lafleur, Robinson, Savard, Lapointe, Lemaire, Dryden vs Park, O’Reilly, Middleton, Cashman, Cheezie and Gilbert

    Bowman vs Cherry

We gave the Habs a run for their money several times, just missed.

  22. Great game and OT goal. Really don't remember this game! I watched the video hoping that I could see Terry O'Reilly kick someone's ass!
