[Spaulding] Fitzgerald: “if every player takes every crumb they can get, there’s not enough money there.” Said he had good discussions with Bratt about team building and Bratt and the other top players understand they need money on the table for depth pieces.

Love it. The players are buying in
Awesome. Seems tougher to do with a player like Timo who just arrived via trade, but here’s hoping!
Edit – Just seeing now what Fitzgerald said about Timo wanting to be here for 8 years. “It’s go time”!
Someone CC the Leafs on this quote. Actually let’s not.
When you have Hughes and Hischier setting the example with their contracts it makes it easier to sell the rest of the team on this idea. Absolutely love that this core understands what they can accomplish if they spread the wealth around to build a complete roster.
This has been how the devils became great in the past. Marty took discounts all the time to keep the team strong. This is why i love the devils!
This is how Crosby and malkin got their cups. If you want to build a legit team you need to leave money on the table.
You can’t have it both ways when you’re a star unfortunately. You take every last penny and so do a few others and suddenly you’re in cap hell and your best years are wasted on a team that can’t compete
Makes me appreciate Nico so very very much right now. He set the standard and never complains as we add pieces who will get more than him. He’s exactly the kind of leader you dream about working with.
Inject this shit straight into my veins
Words cannot describe how much I adore this team
Meanwhile the Rangers have to overpay for underwhelming returns.
My team sucks.
LOL
I remember Scott Stevens citing this as a huge factor of their dynasty 95-05. They all sacrificed in contracts and on ice roles to buy into Lamoriello’s vision.
Something Leaf fans wish they could hear about their team.
