  1. Right when they stop paying Luongo they find a new way to have 3 million in dead cap for the foreseeable future

  2. Not a Canucks fan but I do think they need to address the length these buyouts can reach. I don’t think a team should be under a cap penalty longer than maybe 1.5x the length of the contract, not 2x. It’s a bit ridiculous. I think 6 years of penalty should be fine with this one. Maybe do a 2x for 1 or 2 years left and 1.5x if the contract is 3-8 years.

  3. Been a canucks fan since i was a child… im 20 now. Ah, mediocrity. This team is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Can’t wait to see games being blacked out in Saskatchewan again!

  4. The Cam Neely (+ Glen Wesley) trade was definitely worse than this. The only reason the OEL trade comes close is because of the cap. But the cap exists because you have teams in markets that either shouldn’t be there or shouldn’t exist at all. They should raise the cap floor if anything and if you can’t afford to ice a competitive team, you’re SOL and JWF.

  5. If the points start counting at the 50th game of the season in 2023-24, canucks will definitely make the playoffs next year 😅

  6. No one is EVER allowed to try and justify Benning's time in Vancouver. Absolute masterclass in overpaying, doubling down on poor assets and mortgaging the future for middling results. Aqualini has only himself to blame for giving Benning enough rope to hang the franchise.

  7. One of the big selling points for bringing OEL to Vancouver was getting him a fresh start away from the head coach in Arizona. Then the Canucks management brought in the head coach he was escaping. I thought we might get a couple half-decent years from OEL before he became the gift that kept on giving for angry Canucks Twitter. Kind of strange that we gave up a 1st round draft pick if Arizona were only retaining a small amount of salary though.

  8. As a Coyotes fan living with a female Canucks fan I can now confirm my bed is on the lawn. 😉

  9. Laugh all you want. This cements Jim Benning as the most influencial general manager in Canucks history, maybe in League History. First ballot in the NHL Hall of Infamy.

  10. Nothing new: the Canucks try to save themselves in the moment, but they'll end up being worse off for a decade because of this. If they never commit to a rebuild, they'll stay mediocre forever. They honestly should now go on a Sabres' Playoff drought as karma. I hope they miss the Playoffs by a mile to prove that they're not even close.

  11. This hurts but it had to be done. Thank you Trevor and Jim for for creating the worst trade in Canucks history.

  12. OEL was terrible at Arizona and showing huge decline before Vancouver traded for him. This will haunt them for years. I love it.

  13. According to CapFriendly, a cap savings of around 17.5 million over the next four years. A no-brainer. The cap will go up, and they're not the only team in the league with a little money on the books. I'm not interested in re-hashing how bad Benning was. I'm interested in doing the logical thing with what you've got now.

  14. Vancouver is one of the dumbest, most poorly managed teams in the nhl. The amount of times they have screwed themselves over in the past 5-10 yeara is astounding.

  15. Focussing on what they will have "less to spend" is illogical because it assumes that OEL was still capable of playing. It's time to stop these ritualistic, negative reactions and give the current management a bit of credit for intelligence. It's not an easy job, unless you just want to burn it all down. Which would also be illogical for a team with two of the best young players in the world.

  16. Arizona be like: what😮?what did we do to deserve a penalty?😂

  17. Honestly it's probably a good move. If we buy him out, the highest his cap hit will be is just over 4 million as opposed to 7 million. We should be able to get a defenseman of equal or higher calibre for under 3 million. It just sucks that we're even in this situation.

  18. At this point I'm convinced that the Canucks is just a front for some odd money laundry operation
