  1. Those were the glory days. We didn’t have a tv and didn’t grow up in a hockey family but at a young age my uncle turned me into a fan of the Wings. I remember laying on the living room floor tuned into a fuzzy AM channel with my eyes closed just picturing what was going on. Yzerman and the Russian 5 kept me going. Of course almost all the Red Wings players in that time were superstars, and of course McCarty being from my hometown was just awesome. And then getting to watch some massive games and Stanley cup victories on TV as I got older, to going to finally watch games in person. And of course as you can see on my profile picture, getting to meet Yzerman in a company suite during the time he first put together a team for Team Canada after he retired. What an awesome time to be alive that was.
I also miss Zetterberg and Datsyuk. I could go on and on. 😀

  2. I don't remember this game but remember the game a few weeks later against the Blues where the Wings tied it late in St Louis to force a tie.

  3. WOW! These play by play announcers are incredible compared to today. Now days they just mention what's happening every so often. And only occasionally get names. And they are wayyy behind the play always it seems.

  4. Hearing the ESPN theme music and Gary Thorne's opening statements immediately takes me back to the excitement of that era. Yzerman was born with ice in his veins. What a joy it was to root for these living legends of hockeytown. For my money Gary and Bill were the greatest sports caster duo that ever donned headsets for the NHL. I love the det fox guys of course, but for nationally televised games Gary and Bill can't be topped.
    Thanks A-wood!
