BO HORVAT SIGNS AN 8 YEAR, $8.5M CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH THE NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Former Canuck Bo Horvat has signed an 8 year, $68M contract with the New York Islanders (AAV of $8.5M). Clearly, this was more than the Canucks were willing to offer him.

  1. Hope he looks happier today compared to yesterday (he didn't look that happy when playing with Petey at ASG).

  2. That's a lot of money for a second line center, who is a shoot first guy. He doesn't really make the players around him better, but he is getting his goals this year. I liked Bo, but that is $1 million per season too much. He is having a career year at the right time. All that being said, I would take him over Miller. He's a better leader.

  3. The return for Bo was a bit lean however the trade was a win for Canucks because they avoided signing this contract

  4. I honestly would go with Miller’s 8 x 7 over Horvat’s 8.5 x 8. This is the first every year Horvat has gotten to be a point per game player when JT Miller has proven that twice in his career. Although I know Miller has caused a lot of toxic energy in the dressing room and now us Canucks fans are starting to hate him. But I would still take Miller’s contract since it’s a year and for a little less money. both these contracts are going to be well into their 30s but I would’ve still picked Horvat over Miller during the off-season because we could’ve signed Horvat to something close to Tage Thompson’s 7.142 x 7.

  5. One thing to note, Capfriendly doesn't mention any No-Trade Clauses. One bargaining chip to reduce salary is to implement trade clause.

  6. To all the Canuck haters here who are bad mouthing the Canucks for the trade, you understand they had to trade him, right? They would have preferred to keep him but he didn't accept their offer. It was his choice. They had to make a deal, because they couldn't let him play out the season, and get nothing in return for him, like what happened to the Flames with Gaudreau. Don't get mad at the Canucks for making a fair offer, it was Bo's decision to get what he could, which in my opinion is a overpayment.

  7. Good on Bo for getting the money he wants. More happy for our GM not to pay that for him though. Management made the right move here

  8. Oh my god. No no no! Look, I’m happy for Bo, but there’s no way. Glad we got what we did for him. The biggest piece being the first rounder.
So I’ll think they should have traded JT last year, and I’m still fuming over the mismanagement of the team, but this was actually a good move.

  9. Very happy for Horvat, but $8.5million x 8 years is ridiculous. He got his payday after a career year performance, but he will be hard pressed to replicate this same offensive performance. He will always remain a defensive center who is great at the faceoff dot, and can net you 30 goals, but is that really worth that kind of money? Hope Bo proves me wrong. Wish the Canucks could have gotten a conditional pick in the trade: If Horvat signs with the Islanders, the Canucks keep the pick. If Horvat is a rental, the pick reverts back to the Islanders. Thanks, Clay.

  10. Too much 💰 monies and contract is way to long I'm a big horvat fan as well but too much of everything
GO CANUCKS GO YEA BABY GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  11. As a NY Islanders fan: I can honestly say, I love the deal! It’s a win-win for both teams. I’m hearing a lot of “it’s too long of a deal.” Unfortunately folks, this is the direction not only is the NHL going in, but all professional sports is going in. The players want longterm stability, rather than a short contract worth more money. (I can’t say I blame them) I’m also a NY Mets fan & we signed Francisco Lindor who was 27 yrs old at the time we signed him to a 10 yr 341 million deal. Non of us fans are expecting Lindor to be the same player that he is now; at age 37, no no no! So yeah, Steve Cohan basically paying 10 years for 6-7 years worth of good baseball; anything else is just extra icing on the cake! The same thing applies to Bowie Horvat: As an Isles fan, I’m only expecting to get 4-6 years of elite play from him! If any NY Islanders fan believes it’s to long of a contract??? All I can say is you weren’t paying attention during this past off season! I’m not expecting anymore than 5 decent years from Bo Horvat, 4 is probably more realistic. Anyone who signs a player for 8 yrs while their 27 yrs old understands that they are really only getting 5 yrs of elite play. (He’ll be 32 in 5 yrs out of 8 years of his excellent playing career! He had one advantage (and I hope he takes advantage of it) on Long Island he’ll be playing with Mathew Barzal. Mathew can do it all! But Mathew hates shooting the puck, hates it! (Mathew should be a perennial all star but he doesn’t shoot the puck) So as long as Horvat is willing to shoot puck?! He’ll be scoring a lot of goals being on a line with Barzal!

  12. I'm thinking Canucks saved paying $4 million less per year and there are still some contracts will be hard to move.

  13. I think the trade was a good one Beauvillier A Rat and a 1st pic nothing wrong with That and Good Luck to You Bo Hopefully You Do well there

  14. All Canuck fans need to know is we don’t have the $68mil to pay Horvat for 8yrs. If we somehow gave him this $$$, then Pety’s probably gonna walk in a couple of years.

We got a package of picks and prospects back for a player we can’t sign, so that’s a win. Now we need to sell off more players and hope to bring Bedard home. Then the Canucks don’t need to rebuild. Lol

  15. This is why they had to trade him… what is he worth to a team when he will only sign for 8.5 mill?

  16. Bo is a good player but if you look at the islanders' team… you will notice that they don't score that many goals… You can definitely expect Bo's points to regress because islanders' is a defensive team. Respectfully 8.5m per for Bo is not worth it. I still kind of find it funny how Bo thought he would be a canuck forever.. he literally rejected the final offer by the canucks.. how would he not know that he would be traded? lol

  17. It'll be intresting to see the side by side comparison of Horvat and Miller by the end of their contracts!

  18. i was SO confused when i heard this not even just the contract that ends when he 36! but just the fact that he hasnt even played the game yet or had a practice idk seems like a really big risk for no reason…

  19. Getting paid for his career year, good for him. Glad Canucks wouldn't pay him this much. He's not worth more than 7. Wish Canucks traded Miller before signing him tho and try'd to get BO at 7 before the season.

  20. I'd rather have Bo at 8.5 than Miller at 8. Thumbs up if you agree. Comment if you disagree.

  21. OEL needs to be bought out this summer and hopefully someone takes Myers after his bonus paid.

  22. Islanders fan here. It feels like a bad deal but I just think this is the way the nhl is going now. It’s the only way you are going to sign a player of his quality
