Erik Karlsson is one of the biggest trade targets in the 2023 NHL Offseason. In this video, I make the case as to why the Detroit Red Wings should partner with the San Jose Sharks and acquire the star defenseman. Karlsson comes off a tremendous 2022-23 season with 25 goals and 101 points, but at the same time, his steep contract (4 years x $11.5 million) will be a major hurdle. What should the Detroit Red Wings do this offseason with trades & free agency, and will Erik Karlsson be able to replicate his performance with a different NHL team? Comment below, and stick around for more coverage of the 2023 NHL offseason — including the draft, trades, free agency, and more!

The title of this video alone made my chops water! 😂
Which team is the most realistic destination for Erik Karlsson this offseason (apart from the Sharks lol)? Comment below, and stick around for more coverage of the offseason!

Doesn't fit our timeline 🪽
I don’t hate it, as long as we don’t lose a ton of pieces or eat the entire cap hit
Obviously Karlsson is really good and so is Moritz but the Wings are stuck exactly like the Habs .Their problem is the yare using a second line as their top line and sure Karlsson might up the ante offensively but if the line loses some plus/minus what is accomplished?
So just lie kth ehabs Suzuki/Caufield/Dach the winfs top line needs to be their SEECOND line so they lack an entire first line to become a legit sSanley cup contender.
Sure you can piece together a top line by adding a AAA defenseman like karlsson and maybe exchange one player for an elite top player but then your still weak on the second line.
There is a very tight race going on between about 4-5 teams al lvying to take over the last 1-2 playoff spots and Washington on the way out already opened up one of those.Ottawa is trying very hard Mtl won't be there for another year or two, and Buffalo is VERY close imo closer than Det.
Then we have th Penguins who look to be fading but so long they have Sid and Malkin and Letang/Guentzel they also had 6 20 goal scorers they are still a legit threat to the playoffs.
Love the Sharks/Karlsson RR on the Red Wings pennant
My long winded point is that Det is not just competing with Det they need to build a team that can surpass a few others just to make the playoffs and spending all your money on one D man who is sketchy on the defense imo does not cut it.
Interesting idea. Wings are in need of that right shot high performance defender. If we had made the playoffs this past season I would make that deal, but he does not quite fit the timeline….but if Yzerman can also move Chariot he might still fit though.
