  1. The fact that Bouchard will be the point man on the power play should make fans very nervous. Bouchard has shown that he gives away the puck far too easily this season, and if that continues, get ready for a lot of short-handed goals by other teams. … Also, Barrie's anticipation of other players' positioning on the PP was a huge benefit – that is now not part of the PP. … I like Ekholm, but he came at a very big cost to the Oilers.

  2. This is not a good trade from a value stand point.

    Where was the cap retention?

    4% cap retention.

I’m all about money but 4%. What 5% was too much. This is absurd.

Tyson Barrie, 2023 first, 2024 fourth and Reid Schaffer.

With that much out $1.625 million per year should be being retained.

As for the trade being good or not. That can only be determined over time.

  3. Did anybody watch the Boston Game? The D looked decent at moving the puck, they struggled considerably retrieving pucks in the defensive zone with pressure. This is Ekholm's bread and butter. Bouch can step up on the PP. Master class from Holland

  4. I’m gonna miss Barrie! But Eckholm will be good for sure. Hopefully they go out and get a puck mover!

  5. Ekholm brings these changes to Edm

    1. Ekholm, Nurse and Bouch get looks on PP
    2. Ekholm, Nurse pairing as shut down D
    3. Brobergs game should grow exponentially with Ekholm in Edm
    4. Goals allowed per game goes down by almost a full point over 25 games.
    5. Skinner sv% goes from .914 to .920
Campbell goes from .880 to .905

  6. I had this reaction as well about Barrie but looking at his stats, he got 15 even strenght points on the season…hes nor very good defensively..you could put a shovel on the pp next to McDavid and he would put up points. Its not as bad as I first felt, pretty solid trade.

  7. Forwards need to get across Off blue line with possession now cut dump n chase in half or better

  8. I wish there was a cap situation we could sit here and say Tyson Barrie, Nurse and Ekholm are our 3 left handers. But it is what it is. This is purely for cap compliance and the non option of giving up Yamo; unfortunately I don’t see him lasting much longer either. Also im sorry to say. But Nashville should’ve at least retained 25% for the shit we gave up. Barrie makes their defence better

  9. I’m just surprised you guy’s are so surprised, overall he’s had a good season but Barrie was still top 2 biggest defensive liabilities on this team he was strictly elite offence and we already have enough elite offence. He moved out more cap than anyone like Kulak, Yams, didn’t have to give up any of the best prospect who theoretically could be used still by Friday elsewhere with someone like Ceci to make the cap work and this is definitely a HUGE upgrade in our own zone with term that runs through both Drai & McDavid’s contracts

  10. The puljijarvi trade was a complete cap dump but it was a necessary one. Barrie is a big price to pay, and tampering with that power play is a risk for sure. That being said the oilers are a better team because of it.

  11. A stats guy just crunched the scoring with Barrie on and off the ice on the PP for the last few seasons. It actually doesn't change much. We know he's good offensively but bad defensively. That's exactly the type of play that has been the oilers' issue. Ekholm is everything we need and Jenson or another swap might be in the works.

  12. Well Tyler I guess you have ocean view property for sale in Saskatchewan after all as Barrie did get traded after all unlike your Jan 16 episode. Looks like I do understand how business works in the NHL. Lol I'm just bugging you bud as you mocked me lol all good fun. Sad to see Barrie go but we needed to get better in preventing goals. Let's get Domi next and Noah Gregor.

  13. So the Oilers lose Jesse, Tyson and a 1st round drafted stud and a slew of draft picks…….. & get 1 guy … Eckholm…. ok… addition by subtraction.. they need another piece IMO.

  14. I listened to the 90 min podcast on my drive home after a Senior playoff game last night. It was the best random 90 minutes
