[Friedman] There is word Travis Green will join New Jersey’s staff in the position vacated by Andrew Brunette. Green had several options — believed to include Calgary and Toronto, and chose the Devils.

Tbh, don’t hate it or like it lol. This just felt like such a random name to hire haha.
Anyone have a tldr on green? I’ve heard the name before but nothing beyond that.
Ill be glad to be wrong but I can soooo see all of us on this sub hating Green’s guts by mid-season, rightfully so or not.
Aw man I thought this was Brylin’s chance
Part of me hoped that they’d promote Dineen to the big team and give Utica to Brylin but this is not a terrible move.
Tell me how to feel
I have no idea what opinion to have about this, so I’ll just wait for the season and watch everyone bitch about how much he sucks because we’re not converting on at least 84% of our power plays.
In the past 4 years his PP has been in the top 10 twice and bottom 20 twice. Looking at the players he has had over the past few years that’s not bad. Similar situation to McGill last season. With Ruff extended Green will only be an assistant not associate.
God yes, actual team news today and not just more lineup/contract speculation lol. Vancouver’s PP ranking under his tenure had a weird back and forth of being in the top or bottom of the league each year. Lets see how he does with the lineup he’ll get to work with in New Jersey.
Eh. I’m sure he’s fine as an assistant coach, but I’d much rather have had Brunette in the wings to take over if Ruff were gone than Green.
As long as the PP improves from what it was. But it’s good to know we’re the belle of the ball in a list of options.
I see these hires similar to coordinator hires in the NFL. You can look at it as “this guy failed as a head coach”, but being the head coach is *really hard*; that’s why most don’t succeed at it. I always choose to look at it as “This guy was such a good assistant teams gave him a shot as a head coach.”
I think Green got a raw deal in Vancouver when all is said and done, didn’t have a great roster to work with and still managed one decent playoff run iirc. But regardless of whether or not that’s true, I don’t think its a bad thing to have a recent HC as an assistant like Brunette was.
