Freddie and Antti still both in play.

According to Pierre Lebrun,

Frederik Andersen, 33, repped by agent Claude Lemieux,

“Lemieux said via text message Monday morning that they are in negotiations with the Hurricanes and that we’ll see where it goes. My own sense here is that it gets done and Andersen stays put.”

Antti Raanta, 34, repped by agent Kevin Epp

“We have been in discussions to bring Antti back to Carolina,” Epp said Monday via text message. My understanding is that the ‘Canes are also trying to re-sign Raanta, so basically they want to keep the goalie band together if they can. Keep in mind that 23-year-old netminder Pyotr Kochetkov remains waivers exempt for one more season so I think the idea here is that given the injury history with Andersen and Raanta, Carolina could roll back the same 1-2-3 punch next season if they can get Andersen and Raanta signed. They needed all three this past season.

Ehh.. I get it I really do.

However wonder how Pyotr feels. Letting him occasionally hop in and out of the lineup. I see his need to develop but I hope it doesn’t sour his attitude towards his future here.

  2. Given the inconsistency and the injury history, I would just hope that a Freddie contract is incredibly team-friendly.

I may be a minority in this opinion but I don’t think we should keep both. I want to see Pyotr starting more next season

Would love to see Pyotr start more, but he’s still not quite there yet and I think 1 more year of him getting some mentorship from the vets + being G3 could only help.
