I remember this quote and I remember thinking 2 things:

1, Canadian fans are fucking assholes. I had heard it before, but when Patches says the city would be half on fire because they missed the playoffs (which was mainly due to a ton of injuries) it really puts into perspective how insane they are.

2, If, as a player, I rely on pressure from some knucklead at the grocery store giving me grief because I’m not skating hard enough, I should probably realign my priorities.

Patches had a wicked wrist-shot back in the day, but I wasn’t sad when they traded him for peanuts.

realistically i think some guys thrive under this kind of pressure (feeling the weight of an entire city or region’s expectations on them) and others, maybe most, don’t really enjoy or do well under those conditions at all. pacioretty might have been someone who relied on that environment to motivate himself and maybe he took some of the vegas guys not needing that as lack of work ethic or accountability. just my thoughts

  3. Bigedmond

I always loved that quote…. Because he was just as guilty of not being accountable. Like Max, you just told on yourself.

As much as I agree that professional athletes should be holding themselves accountable, I also think this was more a shot at PDB. He has always been a coach that has never pushed his guys into that next gear when needed. I feel like Cassidy is a coach that will make sure to hold people accountable.

Horrible take. So now we’re bad mouthing Patches? Addition by subtraction? Remember at the time the team was playing for Peter DeClown and his whole enabling shitty coaching staff. Look at Dallas now. Same shit. And yeah Patches was pointing at himself too – but it was a shit show in full progress squandering Foley’s cash at an astounding rate.

Basically the same group with full accountability and Butchy saying from day one “if you don’t defend, you don’t play” – Accountability.

  6. Afternoon_Jumpy

Gallant was probably weak on accountability. Would not surprise me if that was a shot at him. But either way Patches wasn’t good enough. Which is what really matters.

And Vegas ended up with the right coach eventually. That’s what high standards from the top will do for you.

Looks like the issue was Patches. Seems like if someone ain’t hard riding his ass all the time he falls apart.

    Fuck him.

Let’s just leave it as Patches wasn’t a great fit? Sans bionic neck, the Buffalo fan base has much different opinion of Jackie Aces compared to ours.

  9. Uzasodinson

This was the first thing I thought about when we went up 2-0 in the final lol

I got downvoted when I said it before, but I’ll say it again…

I hated seeing Patches get hurt this season, and I’ve always wished nothing but the best for him…but I’m glad it was Crapolina’s problem and not ours.

This seems like a shot at PDB more than anything. You can’t tell me that guys like Stone and Pietrangelo weren’t holding people accountable. But, there’s a reason the PP was lackadaisical and many other small but correctable issues were there while PDB was here.

With all that said, do I personally think if we didn’t have Jack and instead had tried to win this season with Cassidy at coach but still with Patches? I don’t. I think that Jack brought something special that, when he is ON, he is one of the top three players in the world. His speed, puck handling, vision, and passing ability opened up some amazing shots for other people which is what allowed us to AVERAGE 4 GOALS A GAME in the playoffs. Long story short, it’s about fit and Bruce and Jack fit the team better. I wish Patches nothing but the best
