  1. I was hoping he’d have a bounce back year, but I can’t be too upset about this. He was beyond terrible and was an unnecessary logjam on the left side for what he was producing

  2. Hey Parker great the fact we’re paying him for 8 years instead Of 4 scares me esp years 3 and 4 those years will hurt more cap wise I wonder if this is because they think a pettersson extension happens this summer

  3. Would of been cheaper to hire a hitman to smash his knees and retire him, he ruined our franchise and will continue to even bought out until 2031.

  4. this buyout is the correct decision. couple things u didnt mention…
    – cap is going up huge in the next couple years. so the hit wont hurt as much
    – also in the later years when the nucks get back to competitiveness. maybe when the OEL cap hit drops to the 2 mill level.. u can trade that cap hit (ala shea weber) for a mid or late round pick.

  5. I hope they’re not, best option for Canucks is trade EP40 + 11th to the Duck for the 2OA, everything will be solved

  6. Agree on what you say Parker, you just forgot that he is 7 and not 8 so they are saving 1 mil less then u said. Lets just hope he doesnt have a super bounce back in another team

  7. This is the right move, once cap goes up, and a couple other contracts are moved/completed they should be in position to get competitive

  8. So the cap goes up.. but you have 20% less than everyone else. Right back to a disadvantage to the rest of the league. SHOULD have made a trade with Chicago to free up cap space. Dumb!!!

  9. 2.1 mil for 4 extra years sounds good in theory with the cap going up. My 2 concerns is 1, someone pls stop the front office from spending all that cap in free agency and 2, whether if players will get paid based on cap hit percentage as the cap goes up.

  10. Canucks are never willing to write one season off for future gain/flexibility. Write next season off and Myers is gone, the cap goes up 6 million dollars or something like that and you can buy out OEL at a much better rate. 2 years ago they just needed to wait one year for Beagle, Eriksson and Roussell to expire and have cap flexibility again

  11. That's a shame, I was really hoping to use OEL as a trade chip. Either that or play him into the ground with 35:00/night in ice time and wait for him to get injured.

  12. If you can commit eight years to a contract buyout, you can commit eight years to rebuild. It's just more reactionary mives by the Vancouver Canucks.

  13. This was a great move… only way we would’ve got under cap was by trading our pick… now we can keep pick and get a way better defender, sign petey and get myers off the books when his bonus is paid… The 2 mil in yrs 5-8 will hurt a lil bit but it will be just like carrying a top 6 injured player so hopefully no one else is injured at that time lol

  14. I think it is better for the Canucks to cut their loses asap. They can still make some trades to free up more cap space in the future

  15. Gone??
You got 8 years left where OEL count against the cap.
Team needs to REBUILD… not retool.

  16. Buying out OEL also gives the younger left defensemen an opportunity to play more (Hirose, Rathbone, Brisebois). Canucks were better with them and without OEL in the lineup

  17. Canucks are the worst ran franchise in the league so no surprise here. They'll use up the saved cap space in next two years to try a complete and rush what should be rebuild by signing guys in free agency, trading more picks and taking on money to try and compete. They'll miss the playoffs and on and on it'll go.

  18. No. We've got to live with this mistake for another eight years. I was so glad to FINALLY see the end of the Luongo contract, and now this. GREAT.

  19. 2 million dollars is still less than 7. OEL can barely even play in the NHL anymore. I have more faith in AHL players than I have with him. Imagine OEL how his play will be in 3 or 4 years…

  20. They were probably being asked to throw a 3rd in with a player with positive value like Garland and decided to do this instead. I also thought this was coming next off-season if he didn't get better.

  21. Only way this makes sense is if they’re trying to make Petey happy by being competitive and he signs long term
