Toews should'nt accept anything less than 8 per. Toews is not 3 million per better than Sammy G. Trade Toews while the value is high and keep the guy locked in to a great long term deal.
That said, I'd be pretty surprised if the Avs moved either guy. I'd think they'd rather do minimal tinkering and go in to the playoffs with mostly this defensive roster, hoping they can win a cup (which is not unreasonable) and knowing that means Toews will just walk.
Also, before people freak out about it, for the people who are like "Sammy G is too soft!" uh…. so is Toews. At least Sammy has a reasonable excuse to get pushed around.

What do you guys think an elite player on the wings and Hayes as a 2C , specially if you get him at around 4 million a year , I think he’s very good 2 way centre and a 50 pts guy with a Rantanen next to him doesn’t he become a 60 to 70 pts , considering he made Compher a passible 2C this year ?
The tough part of the conversation is the durability of our defensemen. Trading Toews makes sense in that the Avs can't pay him what he's worth, trading Girard makes sense since he's the 4th/5th best on our d core and is a clear 2nd pairing guy. Trading one of them would be a good move except Byram and Manson (and Cale to a lesser extent) can't stay healthy.
