  1. If PLD really wants to play for the Habs he will. If he simply wants the biggest contract he won't. If he takes a team friendly deal Habs fans will cherish him his entire career, bumps and all. (and all players have bumps).

  2. No on PLD, let him go elsewhere. I don't think Bouchard who has the luxury of playing with McDavid and Draisaitl would have the same numbers here, and you forgot to mention that defensively he needs work. 8 million is too much, after all Caufield and Suzuki shouldn't make less than him. I also think Matheson is better than Bouchard will ever be in all aspects of the game and that we need to look to someone like Mailloux before commiting that kind of money and picks to a player with a somewhat small sample size. 🥴

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can offer sheet for 8 years. Only a team with the rights to a player can offer a 8 year contract.

  4. I would not mind Dubois, as long as his cap hit is not over 8 Mil, if he comes in over that I don’t think it’s worth, he’s a good player. But there is the rumours that he is a jerk, I don’t like the idea of the Winnipeg locker room argument, I think the Winnipeg’s locker room had a lot of team issues not directly Dubois cause I have seen some articles pointing more towards mark shief and wheeler, it’s hard to say no to Dubois, big can play center or the wing. Can score goals. As long as his cap hit is 8 or below and we don’t throw the kitchen sink to get him, French Canadian top 6 forward big can play both sides of the puck center and the wing, could see him playing with the top line, could also see him paired with dach and slaf or dach and Anderson, very power forward lines upfront, obviously nick and cole are paired together up top ideally slaf turns into a beast and goes on that wing but I do like Dubois in Montreal just has to be done right 😊

  5. PLD only play if he takes less then Nick/Cole… not spending 8 million for Bouchard

  6. Well being on a team that produced 260 I would not call to pay someone 8 mill per 8 years and give stuff up. Edmonton's problem was defense.

  7. Bouchard ? Non … $8 million, trop cher $$$, plus picks 1+2+3 = too many assets !!!

  8. WE GOT ENOUGH DEFENCE ALREADY .EVEN THOW HE IS A RIGHT HANDED DMAN .WERE NOT GONNA MAKE THE PLAY OFFS THIS YEAR ANYWAY .THRES OTHER RIGHT HANDED DMEN IN THE NHL .WAY CHEAPER

  9. I would not do the offer sheet..do dangerous because I don't expect the Habs to be a playoff team for the next 2 years…you can only protect that first pick one year I believe…Also, I know Bouchard finished the year strong but he also struggled for much of the year..

  10. Why not just trade for him, Coach. We have a Lot of 3 and 4 line prospects on offence and a few 3 and 4 line defence. Never give up a first line pick…could be awfully expensive if the HABS finish in bottom 10.

  11. Do we desperately need a young offensive defenseman? Are we offer sheeting Evan Bouchard ? So you offer sheet him $4.1 million you give up a second round pick which is the most I'd offer him. He's a half point a game guy for the highest scoring team in the league. $8 million for Bouchard is insane. You are a terrible team in a rebuild and giving up a first second and a third? That will be hopefully very high picks. Insane cause he's an okay offensive defenseman. But might be worth 4 million a year.
Evan Bouchard is not Quinn Hughes and probably isn't Nate Schmidt.
The other half of this is the fact that in the off-season Carey price still counts against the cap so right now Montreal is counting $81 against the cap and they can only go 10% over the cap in the offseason so they could just barely (if they wanted to ) add Evan Bouchard for $8 million. The number one project in Montreal has to be to create cap space for the 28th overall NHL team. Veterans need to be traded for assets. Move Gallagher $6.5 M Josh Anderson $5.5 M Mike Hoffman 4.5$ m Christian Dvorak 4.45$ M to create some breathing space for what has been a terrible team in Montreal. Trade Savard and Edmundsen ($3.5M each) if you can.
Once you actually have some cap space maybe you can think about offer sheeting people. That said oversheeting people when you think you will pick in the top ten for the next three four years is not a good idea. Just draft well.
Same for adding some expensive veteran. The team actually has to get rid of the expensive veterans they have before they start trying to add more.

  13. No to Bouchard…he’s a very good player, looked good in the playoffs. Habs are good at D so….

  14. That $7.8 million dollar number is a nice benchmark for Montreal. They could offer $7.8 for Bouchard, Edmonton would get Montreal's 1st round pick (31th overall – Florida), 2nd round pick in 2024, and 3rd round pick in 2025. Would Edmonton then trade back for Tyson Barrie? Leave your thoughts

  15. What determines the deadline/timeline of the draft ''payment'' system? Say you've already traded your 2 upcoming 1st rounders, do you have 6 years? Are you forced to acquire 1STs through trade? Could you trade another asset that the other teams would accept as ''payment''? I didn't know this existed.

  16. Bouchard should not earn more than Caufield. Montreal should try to trade a couple of minor leaguers for him.

  17. Nope, too much $$$. Give him 6$m for 7 years. Even if Oilers match they get screwed more down the road with CAP

  18. No way. Bouchard is slow, and not good defensively. He is not worth 8 mil. per., seriously. His offense is good, but not 8 mil. good. That would be a terrible move that would handy-cap the Habs cap wise.
