Fuckin OEL
According to CapFriendly, the Canucks will save around 17.5 million in cap space over the next four years. By the time it becomes an actual liability, the cap will be way up, anyway. It's not as though they are the only team which will have a little money on the books. The more that I think about it, the more it appears a no-brainer.
TERRIBLE MOVE!!!!!!! They HAD to make a move with Chicago to free up cap space!!! Unreal!!!
The love for Kyle Burroughs in this market from the media is really amazing to me. He's an average AHL dman. He gets caved in at the NHL level when he isn't sheltered. There are better options… there has to be.
Buying out OEL is the right move. You save cap room for 4 years and years 5-8 from now no one will care in those years when the cap is north of 90 million. If it was me I'd sign Graves to 5 years 4.75 million.
Can't you play Hronek with Hughes for 25 minutes, and just really hope the other 4 can cover the other half of the game?
It the right move given the circumstances. I just imagine where we'd be if we never made the OEL trade to begin with.
Crazy how the trade went down during the show.
I think buying out OEL is the right move if we make the right moves with the cap savings this year and next. Also nobody is talking about the fact we can also clear up $6,000,000 in cap savings once Tyler Myers $5,000,000 bonus is paid later in the summer. We could have $13,000,000 in caps space from those two moves. Not to mention the LTIR cap savings once the season starts. Also i wish more people were talking about how good Hirose was. Cause he could be a cheap solution, though i do know we need to get bigger on the back end.
i wonder if the canucks try to sign barbeshev as their 3rd line center now?
Buyout talk starts at 30:10
Prediction: Luc Shenn will be Hughes partner on opening day.
meet marshmallow
Managment has no room for error
Saying OEL isn't an nhl dman is plain stupid. Watch the guy go to Boston this summer, run their PP next year and put up 40-50 points.
How aboot miller to Carolina for pesce and drury… try and sign hanifin… hughes-pesce, hanifin-hronek, hirose- myers til bear is back… then sign barbashev after dumping garland and beauviller… go nux go….
*now they can sign UFA's dumba, domi, bunting, & barbashev
I think that's a good point on the Salary Cap going up that Canucks fans seem to forget. NHL teams do not exist in a bubble, would the salary cap going up help the Canucks in their cap problems? Sure but it also helps other teams more especially those teams that have been more efficient on manager their roster salaries like Carolina.
So yeah the Canucks can get more players to get better once the cap goes up, but it helps other teams exponentially more so it just increases the gap between the Canucks and other teams.
There's no way this is a good thing. It's just less bad than the other options. Clearly he was going to be healthy enough to play next season, otherwise LTIR would have been the best option by far. The danger is that they burn a hole in their pocket with that 7.1 million in savings and end up taking on another bad contract, because the penalty goes up after next season. We'll see how wisely they manage the cap. And it's not that easy getting a 3rd line centre now. You have to make sure you don't overpay, because besides the cap fluctuations year to year, they just bought out someone who they expected to be a top 4 blue liner. Now they have to get that 3rd line centre at a reasonable cap hit AND add another top 4 defenseman to an already thin core – especially with Bear, a bottom pairing guy, injured for 6 months – assuming they qualify and resign him. Oh yeah, and solid, reliable depth on the blue line in general would be great as well. This makes things a little easier, but let's not pretend they won't be in cap hell very easily in the near future if they overspend, and since Aquilini is so hellbent on making the playoffs yesterday, which is what got them into this mess in the first place, there's a good chance we've got more buyouts coming, even if the cap goes up after next season. I think if you told Canucks fans the truth, that it's not working and they're going to rebuild, even if it means trading really good players that we like, but in 3 years, we'd have a team headed towards being a contender, they'd be on board. At least the team would be showing some direction and a plan. It just feels like trial and error at this point.
Debating with a 15 year old can be frustrating eh Chris?
Myers-hughes
Juulsen is better than Burroughs faber 🤦♂️
Myers bonus is sept 15th quads 🤦♂️
Love agro faber
People forget that Gonchar and Foote are coaches. This wasn't just management dumping OEL by themselves. You have to think that the coaches were consulted before they pulled the trigger.
Dante fabroo should target bring HIm back Home to new westminster julessin sucks fabroo is cheap 2.5 million perfect for Hughes ?Hughes woo is perfect pairings
Hughes fabroo Mcward
Hirose Hronek
Wolanin woo Burroughs Myers top 2 if you get Fabroo looks great Defense is Better Bear won't come back until December Fabroo fall out of Nashville
Dante fabroo 2.4 million can trade Him to Vancouver
Hughes Beskia come out of retirement
“WE’RE ON TEAM CHAOS” I need this in the intro
53:14 The Canucks would have been taxed 3 million more in 2026-27 because OEL would certainly not be an NHL caliber defenseman by then. This buyout is the best of a bad situation
if they could sign ufa barbashev as 2c, trade miller to columbus for 3c roslovic and peeke as hughes partner. still trade a couple of wingers for tougher, harder to play against. center position solve part of defense needs solved.
