The NJ Devils & Winnipeg Jets Possibly Can Pull of A Trade for Connor Hellebuyck, But Will They?

The New Jersey Devils & Winnipeg Jets Possibly Can Pull of ATrade for Connor Hellebuyck, But Will they? When recently asked Hellebuyck said he would sign an extension with the NJ Devils. Im sure Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald got all excited, but that next contract won’t be an easy one to squeeze onto their cap situation for the future.
With the recent re-signing of Jesper Bratt, with Timo Meier next up to make big money, and then Dawson Mercer looking for a new deal and in the future with Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec, is it possible to get Hellebuyck and keep him and this young core in tact.
In this video I discuss how Yegor Sharangovich and Vitek Vanecek and other pieces can make sense, but not for the long term.

  1. i would do it for high 7s low 8, hes a great goalie but the question then becomes what do we do with VV AS? do we sign him short term until schmid is ready? also tyler brennan in the system.

  2. It's too much money he's asking for 😮 on the other hand, might be a godsend 😂 Good thing our GM is a genius 🎉 LFGD Always and Forever

  3. Anyone with the word Hell in his name belongs on the Devils we missed out on Satan in the 90-2000’s, im worried about that salary, so i would love him but he would cost too much to get and way too much to keep, so pass

  4. Don't see the team having the need to make a huge gamble on a 30 year old goalie. The window just opeined for the Devils.

  5. I really like the Vanecek/Schmidy/Daws combination, V is great in the regular season Schmidy in the playoffs and Daws is a great insurance if someone gets hurt. These 3 contracts combined cost us less than 5mil per year.. (edit) Oh and i forgot about Blackwood! Lol

  6. I don't know about this…he's gonna cost a lot and the Devils have some good goaltending on the roster already.

  7. Great goaltender but he could put NJ in cap trouble very quickly and that could unravel a lot of plans for prospects coming up in the system. I think the tandem of VV and AS is strong as is and they simply need more time together, which a full season of AS on the main roster will do. I don't put all the blame on goaltending in the playoffs since a lot of goals were scored against the Devils due to turnovers and bad defensive play from a team with little to no playoff experience for most of the roster. This is correctable and I think NJs goaltending will improve along with the entire team with the guys they already have.

  8. Vitek, Blackwood and Tatar are just under $11m together. Hellebuyck at $9.5m, Schmid and an ELC for Holtz/Foote/Clarke also roughly $11m. Now granted I also think $9.5m is a bit much and would prefer something starting with an 8 (I'd be fine with $9m flat).
The Devils have their blueline locked up for under $20m, if they spend $10m on goalies that leaves $52+m for our forwards. If Timo signs 8×8 the top 6 is locked up for $38m ($44m if Mercer gets a 6×6 extension for the following season), that leaves roughly $14m for the bottom 6. McLeod, Haula, Bastian and Lazar combined should be $7-9m, that leaves $5-7m for two or three bottom 6 spots (which could be filled by ELCs).
Will a contract worthy of a Venzna finalist be expensive yes. Can the Devils make it work under the cap? Also yes.

  9. Hard pass.. use that cap to lock up Mercer, Luke and Nemec. No need to get a 30 year old goalie. It doesn't matter how good the goalie is if the team in front of him can't defend

  10. If we can afford it, then we have to do it. We are finally in a position to make any necessary trades to make us win a cup. We are all in. Guys want to play here. I love it. Gonna be a great 10 more years!

  11. On July 29th, during the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Nashville, the Devils will trade Vitek Vanacek, Yegor Sharangovich, Jesper Boqvist, Reilly Walsh, the 154th pick, and a 2024 5th-rounder to the Jets for Connor Hellebuyck and on July 1st, the Devils will sign Connor to a 9-year contract extension worth $108 million ($12 million AAV a year).
