  1. He would have to come down to at least 8 million and probably lower, and the Devils would have to trade out Vitek. But yeah the Devils could make it work, WPG had awful defensive metrics, Devils were top 5 if not top 3 in most metrics.

  2. Why the hell would he want to move to New Jersey? We could easily use him in Minnesota. Minnesota is also, btw, a far nicer place to be in than third world NJ.

  3. I'd prefer we trade for Gibson. He's far cheaper, has 4 years left on his deal, will return to his Vezina form if you put him a good defense, which NJ has, and he's only 28 years old. Hellebuyck's contract on the other hand is going to age like milk. 9.5M until he's almost 40? Absolutely not.

Also, the Lightning made the Final in 2015. Not 2016. 2016 was Pens vs Sharks.

  4. I can't remember Winnipeg in enough playoffs with HELL on a great team like TB or NJ to compare. 9.5 … no! 7mil 7years

  5. I think Hellebuyck is getting sold a bit short on his playoff performances. Yeah, he isn't Valisevski – no one is. Helly hasn't been bad in the playoffs generally speaking. Career .916 save percentage after a rough series against Vegas. Won three straight overtime games against the Oilers to eliminate them a couple years back.

Game two was a 1-0 shutout. Game 3 was 2OT. Game 4 was a 3OT. Was Hellebuyck the main reason for that series win? I think an argument could be made. Then his 2018 run to the west final was big as well.

Helly is a 9-10 million dollar goalie, thats just NHL economics right now. It doesn't matter what Vasilevski is making.

  6. Even more than the $ amount, the thing that would scare the Devils most is the length of term Hellebuyck would want. The guy is already on the wrong side of 30 and a 7 year deal would/should be unthinkable. A 4 year, 8.8 million extension deal would work for me. It comes down to would he take less money to have 4-5 kicks at the can or does he want the bag, knowing he will never win the cup….Ask Lundquist if he would rather have the salary or a cup?

  7. NJ does not need Hellebuyck. We have Schmid and Vaneck. It would cost too much to get him and he is too old. Devils are not resigning Blackwood.

  8. Depends how bad he wants to play in NJ. I don’t know if any team will pay him what he thinks he’s worth.

  9. Hellebuyck cannot be making the money that Vasilefsky is and asking that money he does not have the resume that Vasilefsky has and no Stanley Cup appearance. NJ would be making a mistake doing that.
