According to @JeffMarek, he suggests that Pat Verbeek would not be scared to pick the controversial Russian prospect at 2nd overall 👀 Thoughts?

You have to imagine Habs would push for 3rd/4th overall hard if that happens, Fantilli or Carlsson would be game changing

  2. Fun idea but won’t happen. I’m at 98% sure on this.

Edit: Oh and by the way, it’s a wild theory he cooked up from almost nothing so it’s just for fun.

If this is true I could foresee a good offer to Anaheim for that second pick. We have depth at centre but not an elite talent.

If they really want Michkov it shouldn’t take many prospects or picks outside of 2023 to secure this

OH GOD PLEASE DO THIS VERBEEK! Smith at 5OA would make me quite happy.

Honestly, he’s so good, I’d be surprised if Chicago doesn’t take him

  6. Do it Anaheim, anything if that means Carlsson becomes a Hab. Though just the chaos it would cause would be amazing.

I hope they pick hi m just so the drama doesn’t fall on us. I’d just like a nice, no controversy first round pick for once.

Picking Rykov second overall would be controversial indeed

  9. I don’t think this will happen at all but it would be insane if it did, the ripple effect it’d have on the draft would be nuts.

Think I’ve had enough of this kind of chatter around the draft. It’s all speculation.

Listen to the podcast instead of reading clickbait.

If Michkov goes top 4 it’s party time. I’m looking forward to having Reinbacher in the mix though

This quote is taken out of context. He mentions several times that they’re just talking and that this isn’t news. Because Verbeek worked with Yzerman, they’re both the type of guys who don’t care what the public opinion is. He talks about Detroit taking Seider being a shock to the public. He then mentions that if the Ducks were to take Michkov, it would be a shock, but that Verbeek wouldn’t care.

Everyone is sick to death of all the Michkov blabber and I understand that, but here’s the juice on the whole thing IMO:

The only position in this draft where “should we or shouldn’t we” is a difficult decision, is positions 2 and 3 (and maybe a year or two ago, position 1 but I think that ship is long gone).

Anything beyond that it should be a no-brainer if he is available. Accounting all day long for the Iron Curtain 2.0™ , his rumoured personality issues, the “he’s gonna pull a Jagr” talk, everything.

When you sit on a high pick in a stacked draft year, and a generational talent is available, **you take that guy**.

If it were a closer race skill-wise between the top 5 in another year there would be an argument for the Smiths and Leonards and Reinbachers of the world, but not when Michkov is in the running.

Which is exactly why I think he’s going to get scooped by the Sharks or prior to that

The new spec ops for Kent Hughes’ team is to convince ANA to pick Michkov.

Honestly I’m having a tough time imagining a world where the 2nd best player gets chosen 2nd.

  17. I would prefer Carlsson off the 3 centers but hes probably not gonna drop

  18. Meats_Hurricane

Over at r/hockey I see a lot of people saying they would not be surprised if Anaheim took Michkov and that he’s the second best player in the draft.

It has me hopeful we end up with Michkov or 1 of the Centers

  19. Studly_Wonderballs

I like to think that Marek wouldn’t put something like this out there unless he knew that it was at least something Anaheim was considering. It would be irresponsible journalism if it wasn’t.

Makes the previous report that Hughes was trying to trade up to 2nd make more sense. If Anaheim is considering Michkov, I’m sure they won’t make a final decision until the day of the draft. Hughes has probably laid the groundwork for a deal if that’s what they decide to do. ANA moves back to five, draft the player they want, and pick up something nice in the process (Lane Hutson? 2024 1st?).

And now I am envisioning the trade happening, more bad news about Chicago being released, Chicago being stripped of their 1st overall pick, and Bedard coming home to Montreal. IT COULD HAPPEN!

Do our thoughts really matter ? We have no control over the draft. All we can do is wait and see who any team picks
