When Shanny and the board will let him. He is another lame duck puppet GM like Dubas was. There is a reason Dubas demanded more control and he got in Pittsburgh.
The leafs are a complete shit show where the organization values season ticket sales, jersey sales, and corporate sponsorships over building a proper championship team.
I am not even going to bat an eye when the leafs give Nylander 10 million and Matthews 14 for a short 3 to 5 year deal. Further handcuffing this franchise to post season mediocrity, regular season success.
I have been a die hard fan since 87. I am done taking this team seriously and following them fanatically. Till they make a major change by trading 2 of the core, making fianancial room to build a proper balanced team. I will be a passive casual fan.
This team will be worse then last year. They dont have money to sign Bunting, or OReilly. Both guys we need in the tuffness and work ethic department. They will replace them with an over the hill slow Lucic or a bunch of AHL fodder.

Hard to listen around kids with the language. Any ways , leafs need to take educated swings on long contracts on lower level players, 8 yr 2-4$ of sort of stuff. Why pay one player 15m when you can have an entire line of decent players for 5m each.
