Hughes was absolutely not in the discussion for the 3rd overall pick. Montreal was looking for a center at that time.
the only reason the canucks are as good as they are is because several teams screwed up in 2 drafts and the canucks stumbled onto 2 star players.

I would still rather have Tkachuck over Hughes
but Mete was playing with Weber and it made him look better that he was. Same thing about Komisarek. When it went to Toronto, he wasn't anywhere near as good as he was in MTL

I think the Canucks should have a top 4 defensive minded defenseman to choose from at 11, but if not, I don’t know that I want them reaching too far for one. If BPA is a winger, you have to take him – even though there’s a logjam at that position and they can’t even give one away. You never know where the team will be in 2 or 3 years and if the pick pans out regardless of position, you can move him for what you need as long as you didn’t screw yourself cap wise.

Well i agree that you cannot have too much small players to build a playoff team. Mete played wjc he had some potential. Habs wanted a center and at that time and all the talk were around tkatchuk kk and the guy drafted by detroit.
